I think he gets 1 more chance but we will also bring in another QB with a lot of potential to challenge him for the starting job. And then at that point it's really his job to lose then.
BB5 not going anywhere just yet. Go Jags!!!!

I wrote in another thread that I believed Bortles' 5th year option would be picked up regardless of how this season has gone.  After reviewing how the 5th year option works, especially for top 10 picks, I now highly doubt that the option is picked up because I believe his 5th year salary would be in the $18 million range.  They'll likely instead just franchise him if he plays well in 2017.  Blake was right about this being a "nightmare" on multiple levels.  It may cause us to lose a good player to free agency in a couple of seasons since the franchise tag will likely be used on Blake should he play moderately well next year.

Quote:No, not Romo.   Too old and too injury prone.
Agreed.  Romo is going to be looking for his Manning moment if he leaves Dallas.  He won't be coming to play behind this line for all the salary cap in the league.
Our 2017 oline will be different.
Even if the Jags wanted him, Romo is not coming to Jax at all unless he has absolutely no other options, IMO.

Heck, I bet Romo would choose the Bears and Jets before he would choose to play in Jax.
Quote:I think a McCarron or even Romo would be a good idea.
AJ yes

Romo got killed behind the best line in football, how will that work out here?
If they can snag Jim my Garrapolo then no. He's going to get traded to someone...watch. I'd give a first for him. We are in dire need of a new HC and QB.
a first, I think not

Better than another bust. The only one Caldwell will be successful at is Ramsey, and he fell in Caldwells lap.
You don't know that, a lot of these guys are young and their careers have just started. This is why I have a hard time on this board, a guy drops a ball and yall want them cut, miss a block = bust lets draft another, I understand the frustration of losing but thank goodness the key board GMs are not in charge

Quote:This is pretty much where I'm at with Bortles.  They're not cutting him, and they aren't going to bench him without bringing in some legitimate competition to push him.  Henne and Allen aren't legitimate competition.  They're seat warmers.  I would expect to the the team look into someone like McCarron and  have an open competition for the starting gig during the off season.  I think Bortles needs that pressure.
What about renting Romo for 2 or 3 years when he becomes available?  On second thought, no.

This.

Wonder what the Bengals would ask for AJ?
If Dave is still here, he's tied to Bortles. You guys know exactly how this works. We've been through it 3 times already.

Probably at least the equivalent of a 2nd Round pick.

I think a young vet Qb like AJ would be a great thing

But I'm gonna tell u...

I think Bradley stays and Blake improves next year.

I think we have a top 3 defense and blow teams out next year.

Jus saying.....

It's finally actually going to be next year. Not just something we say in the off season...

It's really gonna happen

I think next year Blake is gonna limit his mistakes and be worth keeping.

Ur gonna lol at this...

But i think next year we are well over 500.

I think we are the comeback team of the year
Quote:One question is will be Jaguars pick up Blake Bortles' 5th year option by the May, 2017 deadline?

This will be telling. I doubt they will pick it up because it will have them on the hook for ~20 million. That's a lot of money for a Bortled-up Bortles.

I wouldn't. If he makes progress, and plays deserving of an extension, the team should have the cap space to do it after the season. Alternatively, the franchise tag could be an option, which would put you back in the neighborhood of the original fifth year option. So I don't think picking up the fifth year makes a lot of sense.

Probably the only risk of not picking up the 5th year option is if Blake Bortles has the type of season everyone with the Jaguars and their fans are hoping for,  the team would have to seriously consider using the more expensive Exclusive Franchise Tag in 2018 ...........if the two parties can't work out a long term contract.
