This was so sad. I was so sure we would pick Thomas. Ruined my night when I heard Alualu.

Likewise.  But for some reason I had a feeling they were going to not pick Thomas.  Or anyone good for that matter.
i am a big cal fan and even i was like what the heck, alualu was a borderline first rounder but i also heard that dallas was gonna pick him if he was available so gene panicked lol

Quote:I am just saying Alualu was a terrible pick. We could have had JPP. I would have loved JPP. But there were also other players on the board that Gene Smith missed. Earl Thomas being one of them. Which was also a major need on this team.

I don't remember any board members talking about this guy named Earl Thomas I had never heard of before.

I don't think anyone thought he would fall to our pick.

One of the best FS in the league.  Plays for Seattle.  I remember him being mocked to us in a couple drafts.

Earl Thomas was the highest player on the board and safety was our biggest need!

Clearly.....we will have to draft waaaaaay better to get out of the mess we're in. We NEED big hits in the 1st 2 rounds and pick up a steal or 2 in the later rounds. Picking so high in the draft, our 3rd rounder is virtually a 2nd. In my opinion, this will be the most important draft for us in a long time.
Here is the deal.   I really like Clowney.   I think we need him more then a qb right now.   When was the last time we had an Elite pass rusher?   I see the huge deal with Bridgewater.    But?  Come playoff time does that even matter?   If you can't pressure another teams qb and they can yours.    Then how many playoff wins will that equal?    In the Nfl you have to have constant pressure on the qb.

Clowney is a once in a blue moon prospect.   Trying at 80% he is a beast.   And puts every other DE to shame.    I am tired of watching other qbs have all day to throw the ball.  And I truly believe even with a franchise qb.   We will not win more then 8 games if cant rush the qb.  I know many get blind sided by the fact our qbs stink.   And while true.  And wont be devastated if we did draft Bridgewater.

I still would rather have Clowney.   He is a monster DE.  And a true game changer.   And those type of DE dont grow on trees.

In more than 30 years of watching the NFL, I can count the teams that needed a QB more than the 2013 Jags on one hand.
I predict Clowney will have more success than Bridgewater.

As such, I hope we get #2 overall, TB takes TB, we take Clowney. QB in round 2

And we will draft one, in round 2

No you can't. Every team has needed a quarterback at some point as badly as the Jaguars do now. Stop lying.

 He's stating a legitimate opinion.

The Jaguars are 3-22 since the start of the 2012 season.   A major reason for that record is the Jaguars QB play not being remotely close to the level of a winning caliber team.

This doesn't even factor in the importance of Jaguars needing to win in order to build the fan base.   It's hard enough for a long time NFL franchise to go through a long period of losing.   It's that much more pronounced when it happens to a team that has only been in the NFL for 19 seasons and plays in a small market.    As much as I respect the intangible element Chad Henne brings to the table,  there's no QB on the Jaguars roster that's remotely close to the long time starter solution for the franchise.

In my 3 Round 2010 Mock Draft,  I projected Earl Thomas going to the Jaguars with pick # 10.     At the time it seemed to make sense from the standpoint of value and need for the Jaguars.

I was way off base with my projections for the Jaguars in that draft.   I didn't have Tyson Alualu going until pick # 45 in Round 2,   that Denver had prior to their trade up for Tim Tebow.    Speaking of Tebow,   he was my projection for the Jaguars in the 3rd Round.   The way I do my Mock Draft is trying to project what will happen,  not necessarily how I think a player will perform in the NFL.    I was beyond shocked that the Broncos traded up to pick # 25 to draft Tebow .   I never saw the Alualu pick at # 10 or the Tebow pick at # 25,  coming.

JW, D6 kinda made my point, but I'll add to it.

Every team has needed a QB at some point, yes.  But even those teams didn't have 2 QBs putting up way more interceptions than touchdowns.  I honestly can't remember a team that needed a QB MORE than our 2013 Jags.  Even the Kitna-led 2008 Lions team were competitive.  Teams that have had to start guys like Sage Rosenfels didn't have it this bad.
I've been a Louisville gan since 78. The only players I've ever wanted us to draft badly were Hugh Douglas, Elvis Dumervil and Teddy Bridgewater.
Clowney first....and the drive, passing and pure heart I just saw...Aaron Murray for QB.
Why is it so hard for people to understand? Jared Allen was putting up 20+ sacks on the Vikings and the team sucked. The Broncos sucked before Manning when they had Von Miller doing the same. JJ Watt is still a beast and the Texans have 2 wins.
