Its been reported already that we contacted the Steelers and Cardinals, so yeah there is proof that he was shopped around. The media doesnt get report on every single team Dave called, but those two show he put the time in and im sure he called more.
Curious, what would you, or TMD for that matter, consider a realistic fair compensation. Taking into account that Albert who was a better player got an offer of a 3rd round pick from the most desperate GM in the NFL.

In most cases the later reports turn out to be the most valid, although the mere fact that they are reports precludes any of them to be classified as proof.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. If Monroe played the rest of the season here we would have gotten a compensatory pick in the 2015 draft. At best it would have been a third round pick, after all other selections in the third round. The general rule is that a draft pick in this year is worth a round higher than a draft pick in the next year. Given this, We got the equivalent of a 2015 3rd and 4th for Monroe versus at best a 2015 3rd. And that is even if the Ravens repeat as SuperBowl winners. Every spot they drop in win/loss rankings is gravy.
Personally, I think Monroe wasn't playing that well, but am not sure how much of it was compensating for poor guard play. I am pretty sure the staff thinks Joeckel is the long term answer at left tackle. They were not willing to pay Monroe big bucks to slide to right, and I doubt Monroe would have gone for it. So Monroe walks after this year. Given the above analysis, how is the deal we got worse than letting him walk?
Talking about what someone else paid for a running back is akin to talking about what Mike Ditka might have given us. I am not talking about the entire universe of potential trades, just what we got versus what we would have gotten had we not resigned him after the season. Thoughts?

Nobody's going to give a first round pick for a 12 game rental. Nobody in their right mind, that is.

Comp picks are a crap shoot that pay off the year after you lose the free agent and include too many variables for my tastes. I'd rather have known picks in 2014 than potential picks in 2015. I don't know that we did or didn't get good value for Monroe, but I'm leaning toward "we got the best deal on the market."

The only reason there is a premium between two drafts is when you are trading with someone and you have to offer them something of better value in order to get them to make a trade.
There is no rule of thumb defining the value between a team's own draft pick in different years, especially considering the fact that a team could be drafting at the opposite ends of the round each year.

That's not how it works.

I could offer you 50 bucks for your car and you would most likely reject it. That doesn't suddenly make fair compensation for cars 50 bucks nor would that be any indicator of what the fair compensation should be.

So....we got pennies on the dollar in return for Monroe AND have to pay most of the salary.....good job there, Caldwell. Anytime you want to sell your house or your car, you come to me first, ok?...
Quote:They will ignore it....it pretty much wrecks their damage control attempts.....I'm kinda worried that this trade made sense to Caldwell in the first place...and we're picking up the bulk of his salary for this year on top of that.....
Yep....and then you think back to when Caldwell spoke about Marcedes being one of the "cornerstones" going forward....some serious red flags turning up regarding the ability of this GM...

I think honest equal value for Monroe is a 2nd + a 4th.
Quote:Nobody's going to give a first round pick for a 12 game rental. Nobody in their right mind, that is.
Its not a rental. You and others can keep repeating this falsehood all you want, but its not going to make it true.
This isn't the NY Yankees adding a cog at the trade deadline for their playoff run.....this is the Ravens adding a fixture for their team going forward, not sure why some of you refuse to see this other than you are in "Jags damage control" with this trade and trying to make it seem not as bad as it was.

Monroe is a better OLT than Albert. IMO.
That was apparent until this year when they changed schemes. Monroe isn't a good fit in this scheme. That doesn't mean he's not a really good OLT in this league.

Another falsehood you keep repeating. He never said this and just because you keep repeating it, it's never going to make it true.
