Quote:So, the one girl left a school rather than simply cut her hair? lol.....  Guess them hairstyles is serious business...

and the other?.....meh, I don't remember ever saying that long hair/ dreads/ whatever equaled idiocy.

So you don't see an issue with the same exact hairstyle being acceptable at the same exact school just a year earlier, but then the next year it being deemed to fit the criteria of faddish and distracting by the administration?

I just used those examples to show how those in charge at schools aren't always right and sometimes they make decisions based on their on personal preference and not the actual rules.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, ....is it not possible that the rule was altered after the one year?? Or does there have to be an ulterior motive? And as I said, is it really that much life and death of a hardship to simply cut ones hair while attending a place of grade/ high school education as a youth? Is it really??

WHen I was in high school, and the metal-head was forced to cut his Ozzy Osbourne- like hair upon attending the high school I was in, he didn't make a federal case about it, or change schools.....he did by the rules upon his entry. And when he graduated, he grew it all out again. WHew, poor kid.

Different time, though. Now people gotta be making their statements. Thats right. No one is going to tell me what to do, nope, not even as a child. I'm going to do as I wish - whatever I wish - rules be darned - because what I want at whatever second I want it is most important. Just ask my parents.... :whistling:

Just to get back on topic though....

MoJo's hair? doesn't annoy me in the least.

Grown adult can make his own decisions.

If his employer had rules against what he's doing, then thats one thing,....

but they do not.

I'm pro MoJo growing out his hair if he wishes.

Rule wasn't changed. I was just pointing out that school administration isn't always right, when it comes to attempting to foster a healthy learning environment. And none of it was about making a statement. "Rules be darned" ...really? In every example I gave they were actually well within the rules that were agreed upon and put in the dress code for each respective school.

Quote:Excuse me...I've never said everyone should look exactly the same, so please get off your little holier than thou, I'M an individual attitude with me.

My point has been not all dress code rules are wrong. Just because you and your friends weren't distracted by over the top hair styles doesn't mean some people aren't.
I didn't say that they were all wrong. I just said that hair is different than clothes. Hairstyles aren't changed at a whim in a few minutes like clothes. I'm not looking to say whelp anything goes, just that sweeping zero-tolerance policies that try to force everyone to conform to a certain hairstyle are wrong. If there is a specific problem, you can handle it appropriately, but these "whelp, dreads are somehow linked to 'thugs' so let's ban them" bans are completely ridiculous.

Quote:Nope, me neither.

He seems way too clingy to his contrived "identity".

I'm sorry that I don't fit your universal "identity", I'll try harder next time.

That would all work wonderfully...until the first "thug" that's told he can't have his hair that way sues the school because others are allowed to wear xyz hairstyle...why can't he?

That's why they make the rules apply to everyone...that way it can't be called "subjective". Is it perfect? No...but the alternatives aren't any better either.

The hairstyles that are banned for being "thug like" shouldn't ever be banned. There's nothing harmful or distracting about dreads or braids. Three foot tall mohawks in a rainbow pattern I can see being an issue, but dreads and braids? They are common place now. Very, very common place. There's no reason to ban specific hairstyles and apply them to everyone. Punish all isn't the way things should be run.

Some dreads are just as high as the mohawks. So why are you discriminating?

Okay...you are in charge now. Tell us how you would handle it?

Because saying "this isn't how it should be" is easy...coming up with a solution that works isn't.

I've never seen dreads anywhere near that high. Ever. Do you even know what dreads are? They are (typically) long hair that has been matted into coils of hair. They look like this.

Deal with it on a case by case situation and have an appeals system. That's how my school operated and there weren't any problems with the school being sued.

Uh, yeah, I do know what they look like and not all of them lie as flat as in that pic.

Sometimes they make the person look like Side Show BoB from the Simpsons.

Side Show BoB doesn't have dreads, and those are some weird dreads if they don't lie flat. They aren't supposed to stand more than a couple dreads high and that amounts to maybe a couple of inches. Not three feet tall rainbow mohawks.

I didn't say Side SHow Bob had dreads.....I said some of the higher dreads make the person look like SSB .....try to keep up.

Not sure I ever saw a "3 foot high mohawk" either....but I digress....

What school did you go to?

But they don't. Dreads lie flat like most other hairstyles, unless you force them to stand up. Which isn't any different than, say, forcing long hair to stand up (except a bit easier, perhaps).

Sorry, not going to give that information out. I don't even have the school I went to on my facebook.

Okay...not odd at all.

Do you have your name on your FB page, and pictures of you and friends and family?
