Branden Albert informed the Jacksonville Jaguars he wants to return to football, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The veteran OL announced his retirement last week.
I hate that we live in a world with 'player power'.
He announced his retirement, Jags should be able to say no to him now without any kind of penalty.
This guy is making himself look like a total [BLEEP].

I don't know... this is twice now that he's stood us up. I think I'd either make him take a pay cut, or make him run gassers and prove he's in shape and wants to do this. Because fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
The fact is, if he can play, we need him.
He just wants to keep his 3.4 millions he owes to the organization if he retires now. He's just forcing the organization to make a decision but he doesn't really want to play here, well played from his agent.
What is done is done, I say let's limit our losses and cut him now, let him keep those 3.4 millions and move on as I don't think we are getting any kind of effort or performance from him on the field.
Who cares if he then signs for another team and plays well, he had his opportunity here.

So what I'd do is get a free evaluation, one that will cost the team nothing. Bring him back and work the hell out of him. Make the decision before game 1.
What a joke.....I guess as long as management is confident that he will work hard and contribute I'd let him back. If he isn't and this is just about money.....the guy can stay retired.
This forces the team to either pay him his salary or cut him and let him keep his bonus. This is probably a move his agent told him to make. I wonder if the Jags have any other options though?

I agree with that, bringing him in and working him out hard and see where he stands after that is a good option. Probably as said above he's just playing it smart with his agent to keep those 3.4 millions but nothing bad in bringing him and test him a bit more before making a final decision
We should trade him to the Texans. We know our D line can blow past him.
Fine him the max amount possible for the days he took off, work his [BLEEP] HARD as [BLEEP] while he's in camp, then if he doesn't call it quits again in his own, cut him at the end of preseason.
Well, here's my third opinion in the last hour or so. I don't see how we can let him come back at all. He was supposed to compete for the LT position, but now, if we bring him back, is there any way we can let him start at LT? How would that be fair to Cam Robinson, who has made every practice? Albert just decides to take a week off, and then we let him come back like nothing happened?
No, if we have to write off the $3.4 million, so be it. The guy is old and in decline anyway.

I don't see the harm in letting him practice. If he makes us better (big IF at this point) then why not? The cut goes straight from 90 to 53 now. Not really much downside to letting him work in camp. Besides the $3.5mil

The $3.4 million has nothing to do with it, except maybe as a reason he un-retired. We're on the hook for it as of his un-retirement.
The downside of letting him work in camp is that we give the rest of the players the impression that they can just take a week off during training camp and come right back, and that their work the past week means nothing.
It's like "We're going to have 5 straight practices in pads and see who's tough..." and then, "Hey, Brandon, welcome back." What happened to accountability?
It's concerning at this point. He showed up for a day or two. Gets his [BLEEP] handed to him by Fowler Jr. who hasn't really done anything to anybody else. And now he decides to come back?
Clearly he's all about the money at this point. I don't think he can be trusted or counted on now on the field. He's a liability. I wouldn't let him back. I'd tell him to pony up the money he owes us.
And I would then look at someone like either Avery Gennesy, the rookie OT out of Texas A&M or Jeremiah Poutasi this pre-season to get a lot of work in with the 2nd team at LT instead.

It doesn't hurt anything to let him come back to camp. Odds are he realized that stroking a check for $3.4 million was less appealing than getting back on the field. So, the team should let him come back and compete for a roster spot. If he's serious, he'll earn one. If this is just a way of avoiding having tor return that money, he'll end up released before the season starts.
