That's what happened to Oregon, or at least Portland. Although I never saw it myself, while stationed in California in the early 90s I heard eyewitness accounts of a sign just across the Oregon border along I-5 which read "Don't Californicate Oregon". The amount of Cali residents fleeing their own policies had created an alarming northward migration.
Donald Trump successfully kept his promise that Hillary wouldn't be President another day.
