Quote:I think he's a smart dude, but the problem I'm thinking is maturity in the sense that he hasn't adjusted to the game yet. At this point he's got a long way to go.

As a person maturity is not an issue.
Honestly, having just re-watched all of his interceptions none of them are patently bad decisions. Just terrible throws. He had two to Lee where Lee was open but Bortles put it behind him. If those were on the numbers they would have been easy completions. Another to Robinson in the Ravens game needed a bit more air under it and it would have been perfectly over the top of the LB and under the DB.

Even the first pick against the Raiders could have been avoided with more accuracy. Throw that pass 3 to 4 yards deeper and it would have been one of those "incomplete or great play by the WR" type plays.

agree except that last one to lee.  Not only was it a bad pass (a really bad pass) it was a horrifying decision to throw that ball.  Bad decision AND a bad throw.

I just re-watched it and I don't think it was a bad decision just a very risky one compounded by a terrible pass. There was room to the outside there and Lee had the safety beat to the corner. But Bortles threw it too short allowing both the safety and the corner to cut underneath and get the pick.

I am not talkin about character, I'm talking about football maturity.
Quote:Methinks you are just making things up for the sake of making them up. Blake scored a 28 (average QB is 24). 28 is the same as Russell Wilson and higher than Carson Palmer. Vince scored a 16.

Related to the discussion on the Wonderlic test,   being that Dan Marino scored a 15 or 16 on Wonderlic test,  depending on the source,  I doubt that Blake Bortles' intelligence level is what's holding him back.

Whether Bortles is doing all he can to maximize his ability and whether the Jaguars coaching staff has put him in the best possible situations to succeed seem like legit questions to ask.

we will have to agree to disagree.

I think being very risky in the redzone early in the game is almost the same thing as "bad decision" especially when his arm talent sucks.  I don't know why he thinks he can make that pass.  either he is completely delusional about his arm talent, or it was a bad decision.  Either way that pass should not have been thrown.

Because last season he did make that pass. And we praised him for taking those risks and letting his receivers make plays.

He put up a lot of numbers, but I have yet to see him make a pass like that would've had to be.

When is it ever a good decision to throw into triple coverage when we are in FG range? Play it safe so if we don't make it, Myers can kick.

Do you have a link?? Where did you rewatch it at? They couldn't have shown all of his picks... Hell forget the picks his throws been soo bad our Wr, or the defenders cant get it ..
He got the same score as Peyton Manning on the Wonderlic. So if we're talking strictly smarts, not just football smarts, he's definitely smart enough.
Blake's not the guy. (K.I.S.S.)

Quote:Decisions are made prior to execution.

You make the decision, good or bad, then you execute that decision, and the execution of your decision will also be either good or bad.

Fair enough can't argue with that. Blake's lack of confidence in his execution is directly leading to poor decisions.

Just the highlights on NFL.com and the coaches film on NFL Gamepass.

Being a Jaguars fan, I call those interceptions lowlights.

Two of his picks this season were thrown into double coverage when there was a better option wide open.

Gotta' call those bad decisions.

Here's the pick intended for Lee. He's got Benn open on the crossing route and Robinson in single coverage doing a comeback beyond the sticks.

He just locked on Lee and never considered doing anything else regardless of what he saw from the secondary.

Bad decision.

EDIT:  DF - I reviewed the other picks and you're right.  They were just bad passes.  Even this one is a bad pass - so I have to edit my first line here to "one" not "two."

NYC, would you be angry about the bad decision if Lee caught that pass?

Quote:NYC, would you be angry about the bad decision if Lee caught that pass?
Lee had absolutely zero chance to catch that pass because in addition to being a bad decision it was a horribly underthrown ball.

Had Blake thrown it to the back corner of the end zone, maybe Lee would have had a chance and of course I'd have been happy.

The reason I won't call it a patently bad decision is that if the ball was thrown as it should have been it would not have been intercepted. Compare that to last year when he threw multiple picks on good passes but to outright covered receivers. The pick-sixes to out routes were the most visible of these bad passes. He hasn't had any of those so far this year.
