You guys make me laugh. There alot of teams that would love to have him the kid takes abuse from the Dline and from the fans. 50% of plays he has min. 2 secs to get the ball out of his hands. And defense is in his face. Give him a running have of any sort, a online to give him some time to throw, then see what we got.

Thursday night tenn, had there way with our offense line all night. They wpuld blitz and directly in the backfield. But no lets blame the qb for not planting, scanning and throwing a 50 yd bomb everytime.
I believe Bortles is corrigible. He showed last season that he's capable of being a franchise QB. I think the guy has some personal issues and bad coaching to account for his regression. He could really benefit from a mentor.

Quote:Carr today: 513 yards, 4TDs, 0 picks, W on the road to take Raiders to 6-2 with a god awful defense and a franchise record in penalties in one game. Oh, and they are now 5-0 on the road this season while Bortles has 2 wins on the road in his entire career, and both because of fluke wins.

Mack today: 2 sacks, 1 FF, 3+ QB hits

Cooper: 12 rec, 173 yards, TD

The Raiders should be us. Get Dave's bum [BAD WORD REMOVED] out of here. I don't understand how Khan can look at the Raiders and even stand talking to Dave on a daily basis. McKenzie literally capitalized on all of Dave's screw ups. All McKenzie did was make common sense picks while Dave tried outsmarting everyone. Well now he looks like an idiot. Dave needs to go right along with Gus this offseason.

ALL teams/fans can make this kind of point after the fact while promoting the firing of someone of their dislike. They're a Dime A Dozen within the NFL.
BB5 isn't/wasn't the issue at hand for our setback...

You can't compare Carr to Bortles. It's a slap in Carr's face. They're two completely different quarterbacks. Carr is up to the LOS, adjusting blocking assignments, lining his players up, changing plays, calling out blitzes and he just overall looks way more poised and under control of things inside the pocket. He played an outstanding game of football today despite the rest of the team around him doing everything it could to lose it with the penalties. He threw the football 59 times today without an interception. Has Bortles ever gone longer than 59 pass attempts since his NFL debut without throwing an interception or fumbling it away? I highly, highly doubt it. You can chalk it up to the lack of defense and running game. But make no mistake. Your quarterback is the main player on your roster touching the football more than anybody else. And the quarterback has to sometimes make magic out of lunch meat out there. Highly drafted and touted quarterbacks make average players look good or even great. It doesn't work any other way.

As far as Caldwell. Again, you can say coulda, woulda and shoulda. It still doesn't take away the fact that arguably 90% of the NFL can say the same exact thing with each draft class. I think our coaching is still horrendous no matter what we have on this roster. And my reason being behind that is because the free agents that he signed up were very good at what they did from their previous location. So to me that's a sign of improper coaching and utilization. You can't tell me that a guy like Malik Jackson who reeled off two solid years in Denver on a Superbowl caliber defense is garbage. You can't tell me a player like Julius Thomas who at the time in Denver looked to be the second coming of Antonio Gates is garbage. You can't tell me Tashaun Gipson who was one of the very few good and rare players Cleveland ever had is garbage. You can't tell me Chris Ivory, who is coming off of his best career season yet when he left the Jets is garbage.

There is something severely wrong with this coaching staff. They don't know how to properly game plan. They don't know how to make in-game or half-time adjustments. They don't appear to try and adapt their schemes to fit what their roster is more suitable at doing effectively. They've tried to pigeon hole players into roles that don't fit them. And that's not what a winning franchise does. That's not what a winning coaching staff does. You adapt or die in this sport. That's the honest to god truth. Adapt or die. This staff doesn't have the ability to do that with this football team. We've seen coaches go into teams similar to ours. Most recent example for me would be the 49ers under Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers struggled for years until he arrived. He gets there. And all of a sudden. The defense shows up. The running game shows up. And he manages to revive Alex Smith's career and gets it done with Kaepernick.

It takes a lot to win in the NFL. But it absolutely takes three things. An adaptable general manager. A versatile and intelligent head coach that knows how to use his chess pieces on the board. And an engineer at the quarterback position that fit's that general manager's adaptability and is capable of executing his versatile and intelligent head coach's mission and beliefs.

It's that simple when you put it on paper. But it's easier said than done.

Awesome post. This is 100% true.
Carr would of been a bust if he got drafted by the Jags
Bortles would be elite if somehow he fell to Ari. or Minn

Yup, man Harbaugh would've been great. Too bad Caldwell is a clueless fool, makes Shack Harris look like Bill Polian.

Great post!

I hope alot of the issues are with the OC. But to be honest I think it might be Gus preparation and lack of gameplanning.

The offence looks lost in 1st halves and its like at the end bortles just says screw it im going to do my thing and looks way better.
Good ol' captain hindsight

Quote:Good ol' captain hindsight

TMD said Mack and Carr were trash, so I knew they would be superstars.
Again, my faith in this staff is so low that I legitimately wonder if Carr would have succeeded if we drafted him here. That's not a knock against him. Just look at Alex Smith. Sucked it up for the first few years and the right coach came in and it was like night and day.
Our system is garbage with bad coaching. We could have Jerry Rice and Joe Montana out there it wouldn't make any difference. The difference is they had Bill Walsh and we have... Gus and Olly?

Quote:Oh good grief. Every team every draft could say we should have drafted ___________ (insert name).

The largest problem Blake has is a lack of running game. I'm not discounting the possibility he has arm fatigue, or injury, but we have seen what he can do given some support from the receivers and running backs.

Regards....................the Chiefjag
That's Ridiculous. Did you see Carr today? No running game, he passed nearly every down like Brady does and he had tremendous accuracy. Bortles does not have accuracy. So the biggest problem Blake has is his arm and brain. The good teams run to burn clock and to set up the pass, but they win by passing. There is a reason Running backs are no longer selected with the first overall draft pick. A great QB with an average running back will make that running  back look all pro because nobody expects a run when it rarely happens. See New England. Or the 2016 Raiders. Neither tries to establish the run and frequently abandons it completely. I hope Blake turns it around, but his passing is terrible right now, and it's all on him.
Quote:Carr would of been a bust if he got drafted by the Jags
100% agree with this
Hate to rain on the parade  but the organization is the problem.  Every sport has great franchises and bad franchises and unfortunately we have bad management from the owner down down to the coaching staff.  How else can you explain that every QB New England plugs in (including Brissett) wins and every QB that we plug in fails.  Joekel sucks, Bortles sucks, Fowler sucks, Yeldon sucks, Cyprien sucks, Ramsey's out of control etc etc etc.  All of these players would be significantly better and more disciplined in a better organization.  Painful but just a fact.
