That play is a PERFECT example of why Bortles makes his WRs look bad.

Cole had inside leverage on his man.

Cole had a step on his man.

Bortles pass was on the outside of the DB, forcing Cole to come back INTO coverage and attempt to make the catch.  He literally threw the DB back into the play, instead of putting the ball to the inside and in front of Cole, where he'd have had the easy catch and likely a TD.  THAT... would have been delivered perfectly.

Hell, that was even called out on the Broadcast.

Bortles routinely throws the ball in position to make the catch FAR more difficult than it should be, and that's the #1 reason our Offense looks pathetic.  The easy stuff isn't easy.
If Blake had actually led the WR to the right spot, it was a TD. He needed to lead him to the other hash mark.

Some of the blame is on the WRs, no doubt. But Blake never throws WRs open, he waits until someone is WIDE OPEN to make the throw and he doesn't anticipate.

Drops hurt Bortles more than most QBs because he's so bad at getting the ball to the spot on time accurately almost always.
Lee is leading the league in drops... and a lot of his are just dumb...

But for every drop there is an open receiver being completely ignored and/or missed.
For every good run Bortles makes with his legs there's a bad pass or INT...

He's just not good enough to keep making excuses for him, imo.
He isn't the worst I've ever seen and I really don't wanna be one of those posters that just bags on him all the time... but I'm so over the Blake Bortles project.

Graphics are great and all, but where's the one that shows drops as well? At least 3-4 of those deep balls hit the WR square in the hands and they dropped it, but of course that doesn't fit the Bortles bias now does it  Laughing

Exactly. I want to see dropped comparison as well as protection time. The people who keep trying to apples-to-apples this qb comparison look foolish IMO. The pressure comparison was not close. Not even remotely. Bortles did more with less. He had less time. He got hit more. Less protection, no run game, and receivers were not getting open, and when they were, they were dropping more passes.
The list of disadvantages out of his control goes on and on for this game.
Gabbert had:
1. Healthy O-line v Jags multiple backups
2. AP going strong - even at his age against one of the best D in the entire league v Fournette can't get any hole, again O-line struggles
3. Receivers open AND not dropping v Jags receivers almost never open, and dropping when they are
4. 3-4 seconds of pocket coverage v Jags 1-2 sec

But they wanted to KILL him for doing too much this game. It all starts with the O-line. Why does this need to be pointed out so many times? One play for Bortles was the difference between these haters wanting to kill him and him being a hero. Just one play.
Bortles threw the ball really well today everything was a tight spiral.
I propose we edit the thread name to:

"We need a new QB!!! (except against the Colts)"

Blake legit owns them.

Lacking their top 2 receiving prospects?

When all those QB's #1 AND #2 receiving prospects are unavailable, then let's compare

HOW MANY TIMES DO FOLKS NEED REMINDING BORTLES THREW FOR +4,400 yds and 35 TD with Hurns and Robinson, against half INT? He had the most TD's in 2015 after Brady. I'm sick of people acting like receivers don't matter and now the O-line suddenly is immaterial to these haters. Get a clue! Everything in this game literally starts with the O-line!

And that career high season for him was back when he was throwing flapping ducks, but he still got it done. Has he worsened since then? No bleeding way. He is twice as reliable now as he was then. If receivers can get open down the sidelines (all too rare this season), and his O-line can hold for more than 2 seconds and once in a while create a hole for Fournette (less reliable with O-line backups), we would be the Pats #1 threat.
Here's a fun thought experiment: take away any other QB's top two most productive receivers and see if they can still win more than lose, let alone win twice as much. That's all. Just take away their two most talented receivers. Since it's that meaningless. Why not?

Can we seriously not at least credit Bortles for hitting just about every other available receiver almost every game? Lee has been the go-to, but it's not like he leans on 1 guy to bail him out. BB still connects with Cole, Lewis, Westbrook.

He is undoubtedly a demonstrably improved and wiser player from who he was 2 years ago, but he's not racking up yards and TDs like then cuz we don't have the deep threats at WR which Hurns and Robinson consistent posed. We don't have the speed at that position to get the kind of separation you need to consistently produce over 250 yds per game. I'm happy with the Bort 70% of the time, which is nothing to sneeze at with Hurns and A-Rob out. With either of them back, I'd expect that to be 80%. With both, it should be more like 85-90%.
I see spacecoast made a new account.

The guy said he's happy with Bortles 70% of the time so it can't be Spacecoast. He's happy with Bortles 105% of the time.
Well.... if Bortles playing well VS the clots is all we needed to know he's a franchise QB.........
