He admitted to a dead arm before.
I've played 4 years of QB in high school, and 2 years in college. And a lot of 7 on 7 at the beach as a QB.
Some days my arm feels live and some days I'll start off strong and then my fast ball goes away.
I couldn't imagine the NFL toll it takes on one's arm. It's possible Bortles needs a pitch count in practice.
Quote:What have I seen is Blake to think he may still be a franchise qb? Plenty...
- strong leadership
- strong physique, tall frame and large overall stature for a qb
- thorough understanding of the game and our system
- the ability to accurately sense pressure and to buy time in the pocket
- his ability to scramble and to accurately throw on the run
- extremely sharp downfield vision to find deepest player getting open
- adept at going through reads and finding the best option
- excellent touch on mid-range and deep throws, and exceptional accuracy on deepest throws
- doesn't check down unless it's the only option available (compare to Chad "Captain Checkdown" Henne)
- a comeback mentality with a tendency to be at his best in the fourth quarter when it counts the most
- The ability to quickly understand a defense enabling him to play well in no huddle situations
- humility to accept and apply advice when warranted
- Excellent overall athleticism for a qb his size
- Can take a hit and keep on ticking
- Keeps eyes downfield never looking at pass rush
- Nice, high release point
Things he needs to work on...- An understanding of why his arm fatigues with a plan to rest it
- Maintaining crisper mechanics with a quicker throwing motion
- His overall short game
- Mid-range accuracy
- His fade pass
- Eliminating costly mistakes such as forcing throws
- Looking off dbs before throwing
I'm sorry but I disagree with most of your positive points.
He doesn't understand defenses, he can't read a defense, he never adjusts, he locks on to his primary receiver more often than not.
The only real positive is his size and durability everything else is subpar
Also lmbo at "nice, high release point"
Quote:Also lmbo at "nice, high release point"
Well, at least on his deep passes.... his shorter ones he sort of side arms.

How did he score all those TDs last year if he can't understand or read defenses?
Per another poster's questions, how did he score all those TDs if he can't buy time in the pocket or can't see downfield?
From what I've seen, he can do all these things well. He just needs to make smarter decisions and not try to force so many throws, and he needs to get his arm healthy. I can only guess at what the deal is with his arm, but he's not throwing anywhere near as well right now as he normally does.
Quote:It's his arm...feet...and head
And HC and RBs
He's trying so damn hard to throw a spiral too. Really forcing the issue. It's weird watching him do all of these different drills on the sidelines just trying to find something that he think will work. If they lose again next week, and they will, I wouldn't be opposed to shutting him down for the year. Let him get right in the offseason and we will find out quickly next year if he is the guy or not.

How did he score 35 touchdowns? Well, many were coming from behind when the defense plays softer. Many of his yards came as jump balls to Robinson.
How did he pass for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns a few days ago? He was terrible on Thursday night yet his numbers looked great by the end of the game.
Remember, even Fitzpatrick had 4000 yards passing and 31 touchdowns.. You know, the guy that got benched for Geno Smith.
I think last year his mechanics were better and he did everything a little better overall. This year he has regressed big time.

If he continues to suck I wouldn't be shocked if he develops some sort of injury that keeps him side lying
Quote:Blake has 44 INTs since entering the league. By the same point in his respective carreer, Peyton Manning had 50 INTs.
Enforcement of the chuck rule didn't happen until 2006 if I'm not mistaken. Peyton at least had to deal with corners mugging his receivers.

That is interesting to think about it. He seems to get worse every week. Is it out of the realm of possibility that he is creating a physical issue with his arm? A long wind up is one thing but it looks like he is starting to loop out and then down. I wouldn't think that he is hurting himself physically but you bring up a good point.
He looked on the verge of a breakdown during that last game. That shot of him on the sideline OCDing spinning the ball it was clear his mind was racing.

The look of a man trying to find anything he can hold onto. He knows his ship is sinking fast.

It was quite concerning. Enough so that myself and someone else simultaneously commented on it like. "What the hell was that?
I hope it was all Olson and BB5 is not the problem. I just doubt it seriously.

There has been a lot of wth? I don't think Olson was a great OC but I can't point the finger at him for what Bortles is doing. We all know something is right I just hope it isnt FUBAR

It's like you're looking to discount last year as a fluke or something. Forget the stats.... if you watched the games last year then you know Bortles was throwing extremely well downfield. If you think he wasn't, then you really don't know your football. I'm not discounting that he had a couple great WRs out there, but Bortles was seeing then get open deep and delivered strike after strike.
Simply put, if you're trying to say that Blake is playing the same as he did last year but last year he was just lucky, then you're seriously deluding yourself.

His downfield throwing was very impressive last season. He also threw some very very accurate passes into tight windows. The ball had a lot of zip and his pocket awareness was great. Those things are why I am perfectly fine giving him another opportunity and off-season to get his mind and game right. He has proven that he can be highly effective in this league.
Also the fact that we defer on every coin toss is so infuriating. I think that plays a big part in his first quarter numbers. I don't know the exact number but I would not be surprised if he only has 1 full possession in a lot of his first quarters.

If we hadn't already seen this same song and dance with the previous regime and QB, I would attempt to convince you it was possible. Unfortunately we both know better. It's why QB should be back to priority number 1 on the list, and I think a new GM should do the picking.
I don't think it is a problem with his arm or mechanics, per se. I think the problem is in his head. He looks lost to me, like something other than the game is occupying his thoughts during the game.
