I hope Tom is not going Senile on us.  He knows more than me so benefit of the doubt.

Looking at Smoot's stats he has only gotten better.

I mean, that is constantly stepping up your production. He is really raw and learning behind Campbell is huge. I'm gonna be the lone wolf and say I like this pick. Caldwell says Smoot is going to put on weight to be in the 270 area.

Brlynjag, yeah, but smoot is cheaper than aluau, and they both do the same thing, just stay still or go horizontal at the line of scrimmage

I'm reading in many interviews that a big change in Smoot's senior year under Lovie Smith was fewer reps and more walkthroughs to save their health. Since he was moving up from bookending with Jihad Ward the prior year to primary pass rusher, I can see the fewer reps, smaller body weight, and more focus from offensive lines limiting his effectiveness. 

 

He also seems to already understand film study from one of the interviews which is a good trait to already have and may hint that he is somewhat of a football junkie. I think that is the key. If he puts in the work and maximizes his strengths, he could overcome the limitations of the ceiling scouts have pegged for him.

I just mentioned this to my son. How a stadium all calling out 'DREWWWWW" can sound like "Boooooo!" I even gave him a Moose Johnston example from the 90's.. "MOOOOOOOOSE!" 

 

He just looked upon my philosophies dumbfounded and unpaused 2K, turned to the screen and started chatting with his online buddies again. Livin in da future. Attempts at salvaging anything from yesteryear are futile. SIGHHHHH!

What? Your kidding right? Those D-Lines in New York COMPLETELY lacked for talent.

 

Especially that one dude.  What was his name? Stressful? Stetson? Swanson??? Something.. Michael? or other?

Feeney was still out there and we need a LG, I'm scratching my head on this one.  We've poured the most draft picks and $ into a D-Line in recent years than any team in the history of the NFL.

Oh I'll give him a chance... but that doesn't mean I'm excited about the pick.


My only real beef is that we have a very real need at OG and Feeny was sitting there waiting for us. I'd have preferred that pick.


Cam Robinson still defines this draft for me. We DESPERATELY needed OL help, so getting him is huge in my book. I just wanted to see us double down.
