It actually makes sense. Use Allen's performance as a measuring stick. Either he sucks, and you start to entertain the idea that the whole offence needs a massive overhaul, or he's good and maybe, just maybe you have something there (not that I expect that last scenario).
He's pretty [BLEEP] bad. The coaches aren't helping him, but he can't even throw the football correctly.
