I think he can help a lot in short yardage situation, he isn't expected to carry the load for the entire game and he's definitely more reliable than the random PS guy.
Obviously nowhere near the player he was but in our situation, I'll gladly take it.
Interested to see if we sign Williams as well now.
why on earth do you think an older, smaller, never good powerback in his prime because he weighs 205 lb's RB is going to help in short yardage situations?????????
I'm totally confused by this. Are you saying Jamaal Charles was never any good?
I know his stay is likely very short here, but this has me excited. One of the all time greats just signed with the Teal. Welcome aboard Charles. Hope you enjoy your stay.
Jaguars sign former All-Pro RB Jamaal Charles

Jamaal Charles is still running. The former All-Pro has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team announced Tuesday. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported it's a one-year deal.
Is Shaun Alexander available?

I think he was saying that for everything Charles did great in his prime, short yardage power running was never his strength.
Never followed JC enough to know if that's accurate or not though.
Its a good signing by the Jags mainly because we are very deplutled at RB. 2 of our RBS are hurt, one is out for season. the other on who knows when he will come back healthy. the one problom though still is half our Oline is hurt too. if your line can't block your rb can't do anything to help. Jags should sign some expirenced tackles too. you need a oline to move the ball.

I think that’s why they signed David Williams as well. He will be the short yardage back and Charles will be the COP/Spell back until Fournette comes back.

"Charles (5-feet-11, 1999 pounds), originally a third-round selection by Kansas City in the 2008 NFL Draft, has rushed for 7,556 yards and 44 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons."
This guy is going to be a bulldozer with his size. I say we hand the ball off to him every play.

He’ll be tough to tackle at that weight. Or run for that matter.
If he can stay healthy until Fournette comes back and possibly beyond, he could make good contributions to the offense (which is much needed at the moment). He wanted to sign with a contender. Let's hope we can get back on track to be just that....
In the interview they asked him if he was ready to suit up on Sunday.
He pretty much has to suit up right? lol I mean who else we got?
How do you embed a video from Jaguars.com on here? I'm trying to embed the Jamaal Charles interview that they just put up but when I clicked the insert video options are only DailyMotion, Facebook, YouTube, Metacafe, etc.?

Idk, but the link works. Thanks for sharing.
Based on his last 3 years in the league, ya gotta have pretty low expectations.
In the 2017 season, Jamaal Charles had a 4.3 yard avg. per attempt with the Broncos, on 69 carries, Being that his longest run was 19 yards, the 4.3 avg. isn't skewed by a 50 or more yard gain. If Charles even comes close to duplicating these results with the Jaguars this season, the team brass likely will be more than content.

Obviously did something to impress at the workout. Everyone says he's Old, but I honestly think that matters more in the injury department more than anything. Guy is only 31, we limit him to 5-10 touches a game and he's golden. That being said Adrian Peterson has been quietly tearing it up the past two years.

I agree with your assessment.
As a backup in a RB rotation, if Jamaal Charles remains relatively healthy, he should provide a good combination of rushing, receiving, and blitz protection.
One other positive for the Jaguars regarding the signing of Charles is he doesn't have any wear and tear from this season.

Power running was not and is not Charles' game. He was a flash and dash guy. Great speed and great moves. Could have made a house call any time he touched the football.
He got a little more power towards the end of his career though. Started to get injured and lost the great quickness and speed. That just comes with age as well though.
He isn't close to that same kind of player now, but we don't need him to be. We just need him to spell Yeldon from time to time, get positive yards and don't turn the football over. Thinking around 10 touches a game maybe?
