Oh boy. If that's true, I feel overpayment is coming..... I pray we can get him under $20mil a year... But I'm sensing $25mil....
Edit: Let me clarify, we all knew that the releases were to make room for him. But I'm sensing that desperation lol
Why? Foles has no leverage in this situation. He gambled on himself and bought his contract out before Flacco got traded, before Keenum got traded. There is literally NO market for him to be a starter, unless he wants to come to Jax. They will agree to disagree for a bit, but im sure the deal will get done in the vein of 15-18 mil per.

His only other spot is maybe Miami. Maybe.

Wonder if Miami is doing the same thing we are doing? Holding onto the embattled QB and not cutting him until they have a new on in place. I would've thought they had no shot, but they shed a LOT of salary the past week as well.

I think Miami is throwing in the towel at QB this season because they know they're not ready to compete.
If there is one team I think that is tanking for Lawerence, it's Miami.

Honestly, it's just my gut feeling. I'm weighing us in general for FA; we always seem to overpay. I know that there's no real competition to sway the pricing. But I also feel like our staff might be feeling a little desperate with a "win now" mentality due to if they fail again this year, might be out of jobs. I'm not basing it on anything but my gut right now. I hope my gut is completely wrong and the 15-18 mil is the range. That would be great!

That's the price of admission for FA...EVERYONE overpays. At least our cap guys seem to do it fairly smart where they front load/signing bonus it and we can get out pretty quick with no long term damage.

Bortles got an 18 mil a year deal. There is no way Foles would command less than that considering Foles is more accomplished and it's a year later and contracts inflate considerably year after year.

Well the argument would be that no one else in the league would have been dumb enough to give Bortles 18 mil a year either. And the recent rumors are that the Foles deal will be in the 22 mil range.
It’s odd to me they’re debating either giving him $22 million or going after Teddy tomorrow... Doesn’t add up
Goo....I saw where Mike Silver is reporting 21-22mil/per. Maybe Miami IS prepping to make an offer and they wanna seal it up? Hope they are looking at some guards/TEs in the draft......
lets hope its like 18 million per year with incentives that in theory go to 22, although i doubt it

Yes. That's better than the first tweet you showed from some kid with 47 followers.

Even if Jags go around 8-8 they will be in a position to draft someone at QB. Now they can use that #7 pick on O-line and use the other rounds to get some young, cheap weapons. Then if need be, next year, a rookie QB is in a little better position if they need him to start.
On the flip side if Foles works out, then we have a guy for a few years.
For me, Foles's saving grace is that, barring injury, he'll be an upgrade over Bortles. The other thing is that by taking a QB in FA, we can address other critical needs on offensive: TE, RT, WR.
Welp that was a fun contention window boys.

Same thought I had about the incentives and my doubt about it.
I'm actually more concerned about the supporting cast they plan to put around him and what choices they'll make in the rest of FA and draft though actually other than Foles price at the moment.
If they sign him to a bloated contract I'll be seriously pissed...and I mean anything north of $20mil (and even that is too high).
There is no way in hell that he will come close to duplicating what he did in Philly the last two playoff runs. I will gladly eat crow if he does, but I just do not see any way in hell it happens. This is a bad...bad...move.
