Williams turned out to be a project.  It happens.
They have time to find a place for him or move him. Not that big of a deal. Williams could find his way onto the field in a variety of ways/packages given his LB/DB versatility. It just might not happen frequently this year while Wash is still at the helm of the defense.

Williams was going to be the odd man out of the LB line-up regardless of what they did to address MLB -  and we've known this for months.

Yeah I disagree. Of course we aren’t going to hit on every pick, but drafting a LB early when this team is absolutely gutted and seeing him just sit is just another disappointment with management of the roster.

I expect way better managament of the roster, I don’t even understand how people can continue to defend Dave with these boneheaded decisions. We needed an upgrade at MLB, I agree... but we literally replaced Jack with a guy who struggles at run defense. Just dumb. TankforTrevor I guess.

I don’t know where your getting he’s a bad tackler his stats suggest he’s a tackling machine. If your trying to say he’s not good against the run because pff didn’t give him great rating against the run take it with a grain of salt its pff his tape looks solid and he has good size and pedigree for the position. Also the days of “run stuffing mlb’s” are over those guys are worthless in today’s game we got by pretty well with telvin and jack in the run game just a year ago we do need some beef in the middle yet but Caldwell knows that so let’s wait that part out yet

He was drafted at #98 overall in response to a player in his prime unexpectedly quitting the game.
I don’t see the great tragedy here. And calling that “early” is a stretch.

It’s not looking great right now, but Williams could still show value.

He looks pretty good here.

Oh man. He just might be the answer to our MLB prayers.
I'm underwhelmed.
WWPT?

What Would Poz Think?

Contract wise though. Did we win this one with Jack's extension? We paid him based on the ILB role but he'll be moved back outside. Need time to crunch them numbers.

Jags02 probably already has them up there with the big man in the sky.

I still cant believe stupid Caldwell spent a second on a guy who looked so bad his rookie year like he did with Chark. Such a "just a guy" pick. If he aint clearly All Pro that first year he trash.

You make a decent point... But I'm still expecting Williams will go down as a terrible draft mistake for this team

Missing the point completely, and I don’t think it’s possible to explain it anymore. Hopefully they figure out a way to stop the run, I just don’t see it.
Jack being a horrible extension can be analysed independent to this deal.. This is an objectively smart deal , and the hope is it will make the previous error better

To this, I agree. Poz was an run stopping MLB and we needed more out of the position. We needed better pass coverage and it seems that we just attained it. We should be able to mask his supposite defensive run deficiencies, if he truly has them by drafting within the 2020 NFL Draft. I like this acquisition because it implicates that Jack will move outside to which he's better suited in my opinion.

Time Will Tell.

NH3...

Not the point im making. Making the point that he clearly has zero shot to start and it’s a complete waste of a 3rd round pick when the team is full of holes. So let’s just keep shipping out good players for DRAFT PICKS, and keep using those draft picks in this fashion. Makes total complete sense!
I'm not buying this, if hes good enough he will get playing time and possibly start.  I dont think just because guys got a good contract they will start regardless of play or of another LB is playing better.  We should of learned that with Foles. If hes good enough or improved enough he will get playing time

You dont have to explain to us that you simply can't be patient with rookie players.

Doubling down on mistakes is what the Jags do best!
As soon as the deal was announced I reached out to my Browns fan friends for their input. In light of the terms ( 5/53), they were pissed the Browns didn't try to keep him. In their words, he 'was the QB of the defense' and was not going to get beat by scheme.'

That's what you want in an MLB. Honestly, it's probably what we've been lacking at the spot. We need the guy who recognizes plays, commands the D, and puts the defense where it needs to be to make a stop. The fact that this move allows Jack to float some between MLB and WLB only sweetens the deal.

But, knowing the way we operate, Jack will be traded sometime before the darft.
Man I miss the days with Mike Peterson, Daryl Smith and crew.
Quote:Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, new Jaguars LB Joe Schobert’s five-year contract guarantees him $21.5 million in the first two years ($12 million signing bonus, $2.5 million salary in 2020, $7 million salary in 2021). Each year includes a $200,000 workout bonus and up to $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses.

This is sounding like yet another deal that they can walk away form in year three with minimal dead-cap if it isn't working out.

There are a lot of 3 year deals this year because the TV deals will be massive in 3 years and the players want some of that moooooney.

But I agree, another well structured deal.
