This is NOT a knock on Simmons at all, but when choosing between franchise LT or LB... and i have an OBVIOUS NEED at LT... you go LT 1000000x over imo. It's not even close.

Yeah but you can't really peg one of these LTs as a franchise LT.

Wills was a RT

Thomas had Wilson and Kindley on the same line

Becton has the potential but flagged for a drug test

And Wirfs projects to be an all pro guard

Yes you can. They are widely being graded as game changing LT's. It's Caldwell's job to pick the right one, and there is plenty of potential options. Picking the LB there when you NEED a LT... is just... I can't even put into words how dumb.

Simmons could also be an ILB in 3-4 fronts, he could play some SAM, he could be the main coverage guy for tight ends and backs coming out of the backfield, lots of things you can do with him. Don't pass on talent simply because you don't have a day one opening for it. There are lots of things worse than a player who needs a year to learn one position.

Are you confident that Wash will use him in that way? I'm not.

Dude, how many times do I have to say it? You do not pass on a supremely talented player because your defensive coordinator eats his playbook.

Clearly, Simmons is too good of an athlete and football player for us, so we must pass.

He'd play safety/big nickel/overhang and then one of the 3 LBs in base

Dude, tbh I really thought you were crazy saying he'd play nickel (I was thinking SS/OLB all day) but that just might be the smartest thing I've seen on this board for a while.

Most NFL defenses are playing base nickel more than any other formation now if I'm not mistaken due to how pass first the league has become. If that's the case, we could run a nickel base with him at nickel... But he's also an insane run stopper and LB in disguise as a DB.

Its like getting the best of both worlds on almost every play.

I think I want this guy at 9 even more now... Holy moly. That literally let's us play nickel essentially on EVERY DOWN.

Mind. Blown. Lol.
yes you need to stop the the run,but you also need to be able to run the ball. Fornate will be gone from jacksonville which leaves jags without a good rb for 2020,and jags need te depth the tes always get hurt on the jags teams. will need a rb for 2020 season if there is one. they are still not postive yet nfl will have the season.

True so you want to go OT then RB on first round?

I really can't stand that fournette is prb leaving. Yes my favorite player on the team currently and I'm telling you guys, watch what happens if he goes to like a Baltimore or Rams. He might run for 2K yards lol.
We were SO close to getting this guy. Friggin Arizona had to ruin it at #8.
not gonna lie, I cheered for AZ taking the guy.

did not want to deal with the board angst when we passed on him too.
