Man imagine how it feels to be a jets fan tonight.

If you have doubts that Sam Darnold will amount o anything and you think Lawrence will manage to be a star, then I would imagine pretty miserable....or just like every other day as a Jets fan.

But I think the Jets can save him and be much more effective offensively without the #1 pick and go a long way to turning their offense around.

If they stay at 2 and draft Sewell and pair him with Becton, they will have two huge and athletic bookend tackles to fuel a power running game and give added protection for Darnold.  After then, they could add another receiver, plug in a decent interior OL or two and get a RB, they will be a threat to many defenses.

Welp that glass got half full real quick.

Think about it.

The Jets easily had the worst OL this year.  Darnold wasn't effective in large part because of that.  Their receivers were a depleted unit generally, in part due to injury.  Gore, as amazing as his career has been, will be going into his 17th year next year...unheard of for most RBs.

They still have other holes to fill, but adding Sewell will go a long way to making their offense respectable.

I get what he was trying to say, but to me there is ZERO comparison between Trevor Lawrence and Jamarcus Russell.

I found this ridiculous as well.  Not all first picks are the same.  Someone has to go first.  In many drafts, a team will draft a quarterback just out of pure need.  The projected value can differ significantly from  year to year.  According to many, only Elway, Manning and Luck in NFL history were projected as highly as Lawrence.  If we have a 33% chance of getting the next Elway, a 33% chance of getting the next Manning and a 33% chance of getting the next Luck, I'm psyched.  Luck had a shortened career due to injuries, but was still clearly a franchise quarterback.  Do I even need to make a case for Elway or Manning?

please lose please! Colts and Bears should both be playing for something right? I agree I am trying to hold back my excitement for this exact reason.

Bears are still in playoff contention.  We'll have to see after next week, but given how close it is, it seems likely that the Colts game will have seeding implications too.  It would suck if the Colts had a meaningless game in terms of the standings and decided to rest its starters for the playoffs.  Of course, the Jaguars suck so bad, they would still likely lose.

Let’s see how it ends.

When I first started reading your message, I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic, but how you finished it, I'm thinking you are serious.

The Jets did not tank in the Raiders game.  Someone saying that "nobody will change my mind" means that you aren't open minded and are closing your mind to the facts and reality.  The reality is that the Jets did not tank.  I would give three arguments even though I only need one.

1.  Did you watch the Jets/Raiders game or read the play-by-play?  It makes ZERO sense that the team would wait for 13 seconds left from the 46 yard line to tank when they had a much easier opportunity earlier.  Here's the scenario.  The Raiders are down by 4 points and have 1st and 10 from the Jets 16 yard line with only 2:06 left on the clock.  If the plan is to tank, why not tank there?  Why not let them score?  Why not at least let them get a first down?  They had FOUR opportunities!!! Under your theory, it's 1st and 10 at the 16, and the defensive coordinator's plan is to STOP the Raiders on 4 downs, hope the Jets offense doesn't make a first down, punt, and then and only then allow the Raiders to march the field with mere seconds left to squeak out the victory!?!?!  That makes absolutely no logical sense.

2.  If Gregg Williams was told to tank, why was he fired the next day?  Why tank if he wasn't promised his job was secure?  An 0-16 coach isn't likely to return and it doesn't make it any easier to find his next job.

3.  If the plan is to tank, why did the Jets win this week?

I am dead serious.

1. You realize the Jets are the only team since they been recording the actual stats to run a 8 man blitz in that exact situation? The only team in like 25 years ( likely more). That was by design.

2. They had to fire Gregg for optics. I’m sure he got paid.

3. They are incompetent, but let me also be clear. PLAYERS don’t tank. Coaches do. It happens all the time in the NBA, they sit their best players at the end of the year and put out weak talent to play. They position themselves to lose. Gregg Williams positioned them to lose, but I’m sure the CB on the play Lamar Jackson didn’t give up that play on purpose... he just was behind the 8 ball. I’m a big NBA fan, and maybe I’m just damaged by how that league works... but if you are a NBA fan like myself and believe teams don’t tank... I don’t know what reality you are in.

2.  Yet you have ZERO evidence to support this.

What does tanking get coaches?

This, we need to be resting guys for the rigors of the offseason. We need to give the incoming GM and HC all the tape possible on all the guys that fill the bottom of the roster.

Well said. Shad Khan needs to tell Marrone to start Luton. Also, Robinson got banged up towards the end of the game and should not play. This team may not have another chance to draft a quarterback like Lawrence for decades and cannot blow this gift the Jets gave our franchise today.

Do we REALLY think Wash is cognizant enough to play cover zero if we are up 5 with 20 seconds left in the game?
Heaven help me for saying it, but maybe we bring Greggg in as a consultant, since he's unemployed now.

I dunno.

Heck, we can hardly get Wash to blitz normally even if it's appropriate to do so.  I doubt he would ever employ a cover 0 blitz in the last few seconds of the game.

You're right, zero evidence, but also zero evidence to contradict.
Not saying he got paid, but he was a scapegoat for darn sure, and if the blitz got home, sure, he's credited with a savvy call at an opportune time, but makes no sense not to drop 8 and protect the EZ at all costs. A DC with his resume does not get to write that off as a learning experience.

Just look at the other posts here "Shad needs to tell blah blah to start blah blah" "we need to put the bottom of the roster on the field" - If the owner tells the GM that round 1 pick 1 is the trophy, that message is getting to the coaches. They may not be so obvious as to start Dan Lefevour at QB, but a bad blitz call in a close game can turn a surprising win into a competitive loss. No telling if Gregggg didn't take matters into his own hands there, but it was a laydown for sure. And yes, he's still getting paid, even if he got canned. The only way they don't is if another team picks him up for the same salary or more for these waning weeks of the season. Good luck with that.
Just secured the number 1 pick no matter what. Sweet.
