That said, it was time for a clean slate and a new era.  It was the right move, but I expect Marrone to be successful elsewhere.

Sticking by Wash is the biggest strike against him.

Being an O-Line guy and never quite getting the o-line right is strike number 2.

If you need a strike three, there are two dozen in-game decisions or failed adjustments you could point out that add up cumulatively.

Yes, on the whole, not a bad HC.  But it makes sense at this point to start fresh.

He also stood up to Ramsey on the sideline when he was acting like a little punk. I would have loved to see Marrone box Ramsey up like a little gift.
Thank you Doug Marrone for your one time getting us to the playoffs. You never quit on us, though it'd have helped if you fired Wash. If he has blackmail on you, how bad could it really be?

Now here's hoping we aren't dumb and don't hire someone like Josh McDaniels.
Shag said the assistants are still under contract until the new head coach decides whether to keep any. Probably McCardell and DeCamillas

If you weren't perpetually stuck in #3 your entire life you may understand some of the relevant points being made about Marrone.

Agreed.. He can be the nicest, most friendly guy in the world but this is a results driven league and 1-15 speaks volumes..

He quit on his old team and hitched on with the most forgiving owner in the modern era of the NFL which took a 1-15 record to finally be shown the door. Sounds like your kind of guy.

12-36 his last 3 years here, lol.

He signed a contract with the bills who THEN changed ownership. He had a clause in his contract specifically for such a scenario.  He had every right to change his mind.

He then took a 3-13 Jags team to the AFC title game and should have won it.

He's not "my kind of guy" by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not so dense that I can't identify both his faults and his strengths.

I advocated parting ways with Doug and Caldwell LAST offseason, BTW.
Doug is a good guy, but we need some leadership with this new movement.
Why does everything have to be so polarizing?

Cant we just agree that you have to be better than OK to make it in this league?

Cant we also agree that there are really only a limited amount of really good coaches?

And that it's kind of hard to find them?

Yes.  Doug did not do a good enough job to remain employed, and now we get a totally clean slate.

I honestly can't say Marrone is a bad coach.  This roster was pathetic.  At one point in time, our starting defense consisted of 7 players that were drafted (or undrafted) in round 6 or later.  [BLEEP] !!!  Imagine trying to win when 7 of 11 players on D were 6th-7th rounders or undrafted and a few of the other top starters were Taven Bryan (1st round pick) and the slow LB (Schobert - 4th rounder) that was as key reason for the Browns going 0-16 a few years ago.

Yeah.
That's pretty much my whole point.

Of course, it's much more on trend these days to hyperbolize the hell out of everything with negativity.
IT makes sense to hire a GM first, then a HC, right?

Not in Bizarro World..

Khan just said he expects both hires around the same time and will ensure they are suited/comfortable working together.

To be clear, Khan has never let a GM make a head coach decision without his input aside from Coughlin retaining Marrone. And it seemed he even had some input on that one too.
This just popped up in my email

"We all endured a lot in 2020.  I hope you and your loved ones emerged from the past year in good health and spirits, and I thank you for standing with us through an NFL season that severely failed to provide all of us a welcomed escape.

For all the challenges and troubles we encountered last year, however, there is a lot to look forward to in 2021.  So much reason for optimism, so much to anticipate.  And that is particularly true with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

We will soon introduce a new head coach, a new general manager and a restructured football operation that I believe will serve us well in our desire to become a destination NFL franchise that is always admired and respected.  The search for our new general manager is ongoing and we begin today in our pursuit of a head coach who will win consistently and make you proud.

And, you are undoubtedly aware of our enviable capital in the NFL Draft in April, when we will select first overall and follow with a second pick in the first round, as well as two choices in the second round.  Our 11 draft picks in all, coupled with generous salary cap capacity, will provide our new football leadership a remarkable opportunity to complement our young talent and construct a roster that will spark immediate improvement and inspire long-term success.  All of this and more is at our doorstep in 2021.

Of course, none of this matters if we’re not safe and healthy.  As we turn the page on 2020, please know that your well-being means everything to me and the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Let’s continue to do the right thing by protecting ourselves, and one another, so we can enjoy life to the fullest and celebrate each other’s company as we did just a year ago.

As we now entertain the many possibilities and positive developments before us, I do want to take this opportunity to say that I am grateful for – and impressed by – your unyielding devotion to the Jaguars.  No fan base in the NFL can compete with your commitment and resolve.

To be clear, I am not surprised.  The Jacksonville Jaguars became reality in the early 1990s due to an energy and belief that the NFL ultimately could not ignore.  That unfaltering force has been a constant since the first Jaguars game in 1995, and I want you to know it is my intention to reward your loyalty as we seize this extraordinary moment for your team and our community.

Our time is now.  Go Jags!"
