It's the same dumb crap he did with the QBs. The same dumb crap as the -OR- between Robinson and Hyde. etc etc

They better keep him in the box the whole game because he has no business trying to play deep, or cover anybody.

Do you say the same of Joe Cullen? Our DB coaches? Do you think that if Winger was such a liability they wouldn't speak up? Or that they would willingly allow their livelihood to appear subpar?

I get that the HC has final say, but denying that anyone else isn't speaking to the matter is ignorance. Cripes, it's not like we cut the dude, we just said he won't be first on the field.

'every step' may be stretching things a bit.

He's proved his humanity along the way.

I'd like to assume our coaches would speak up, but how do we know that Urbs doesn't just let it go in one ear and out the other?

Darrell Bevell and Brian Schottenheimer have been around and coached some very good QBs throughout their careers. Do you really think it took them a month of splitting reps between Minshew and Lawrence before they finally realized Lawrence is far superior? Wouldn't they speak up about it? Something along the lines of, splitting reps is pointless because we all know Lawrence is the guy and he should be getting the full reps? Did they not speak up, or did Urbs just not care because it's his show and he's going to do whatever he wants regardless?

We're going to have competition, even if it's one sided and wastes valuable practice time.

I agree with you on our stubborn coach. I have plenty of doubts too, but I just find it odd that starting Wingard is this triggering for folks. If he starts and sucks out loud, it just means we'll see others, including Cisco get their opportunity to take his place.

There are plenty of position groups where the start isn’t all that meaningful due to typical rotation.
Safety usually isn’t one of them.

Then there are position battles where you can grasp for a few straws as to why a coach would put the seemingly inferior player higher on the depth chart.
Again - this isn’t one of them.

If they don’t trot Cisco out there after wingard screws up a few times (and he will) then it’s a pretty big mistake by Meyer.

I’m hoping they are going to rotate both of them and analyze tape to decide next week’s starter, but the “battle” to start at this spot hasn’t been a close one and it didn’t go in Wingard’s favor.
The closer we get to the game, the more I want to climb into my bunker and prepare for the worst.

He's been inconsistent, takes bad angles, gets bad penalties and has generally been a pretty big liability, particularly against the pass, when he's been in games.  Many assume that the only reason he made the team is due to his special teams play, while many more are surprised that he made the team at all.  Unless a light has come on for the young man, and we simply haven't seen it on the field yet, I'm surprised that there are Jag fans that aren't stunned that he's listed as the starter.

Hopefully he's a better player and it translates to game day.  It will definitely be an interesting spot to watch.

hahahahah, yaaaa.. I think all of us are feeling this way. But remember, the Jags won the first game against the tacks last year....That rainy, rainy night.
Texans kicker out, this could play huge for us. I figured they would be kicking a lot of FGs

The Jags won one game last year, it was against the clots. And at 1pm.

I'm more worried about Amendola than their kicker.

I'm afraid he might not be replaced if (when) he hurts us.  The issue is that after watching all of the game film from last year and seeing him in person this preseason, Urban still thinks Wingard is a better option than Cisco, so when Wingard plays like he normally does (taking bad angles, committing bad penalties, getting beat by every WR/RB that runs a pattern etc.)  - Urban isn't going to think he needs to be replaced because that's what he's seen on tape and in person - and that's who he has starting.....

Well at least I brought it to you attention.  Don't be too worried, our defense will be much improved this year.

Buddy. I mean this in the nicest way possible.

In your 22,000+ posts, you have never brought anything to my attention.

The defense may be improved but it's still going to be below average. The run defense will be better but the secondary needs a lot of work. You're always a glass half full kind of guy but the reality is that the defense won't be that good this year. Jameis Winston torched them. They have a schedule that will see them play Wilson, Allen, Stafford, Ryan, Tannehill twice, Kyler, and the 49ers. They are going against some of the best playcallers in football this year. If the defense can be middle of the road, that is going to be the biggest win of the season.

Yepper. Except, don't forget Trevor.  IF he proves to be our Franchise QB and IF he doesn't get hurt, THAT will be the biggest win.  Wink

I feel so much more confident in Trevor than I do this defense. They're struggling to rush the passer and cover WRs. Maybe Cullen will be dialing up some blitzes.

But yes. I agree. This season is about the development of Trevor and if he looks/plays the part, huge win.

Trevor being the guy would be by far the biggest win.
