Alualu all over again. But, well [BLEEP].
Honestly just don't see anything special about him.
The ACC has no defense.
The SEC had great defenses... Trent Richardson and Leonard Fournette ran straight through them.... (well, Leonard sucked versus Alabama)...
You just really can't tell from College to Pros who is going to do well.... but... looking at JRob's highlights... he was doing things neither Trent nor Leonard could do. Makes you wonder why scouts get paid at all.
Just saying... I see nothing special about Etienne. He had the benefit of the best college QB of the decade to keep defenses honest.
Travis ETN vs Bama in the natty during the 18 season had 86 yards for 6.1 per tote and two tuds.
In 2019 he killed Ohio St as a runner and receiver. Even played well in their loss to LSU.
Looking at a lot of games, Clemson just wasn't a big run team so he actually didn't get a lot of carries most games.
I won't list all of his games cuz I'm lazy but against bad teams he gouged most of em for like 150 and multiple tuds.
Was he special? Yeah I dunno. I think special RBs are few and far between these days. Was he worthy of a late round first? Maybe.... To a team like the Pats, Steelers... Maybe even BUCS.
Just not a good pick for US. I feel like that gadget RB with speed could have been had in the 2nd or 3rd Rd.

But saying Etienne isn't good because he went to a school in the ACC doesn't really make sense.
I said in highlights you could see he was special. The speed that he hits the hole - might be the fastest in the NFL. But he also has the patience to cut it back when he needs to. That combination is rare and something I never saw in anything Etienne did.
Like I said, not sure why scouts get paid if they can't recognize these things.
I was curious to see if the moves JRob was making in College was because his competition was inferior or if he was special.. turns out he's special.
I’m sure scouting reports are influenced quite a bit on the level of skill around a player on both sides of the ball. Smaller weaker conferences, smaller, weaker and less skilled players.
To me, unless a player showed truly exceptional talent in smaller conference play, it would be difficult to evaluate and conjecture on their potential at the next level. I think Robinson, thankfully for us, was subject to that scouting conundrum. Everyone whiffed on him.

A common denominator in many (not all) "special" players who slip through the cracks is not having elite speed compared to peers at their position.
When they possess elite traits in other areas but face subpar competition in school it becomes more difficult to quantify the sum of their "other" traits into a high ranking/rating.
Obviously, this sometimes works the other way ( elite speed that makes up for another deficiency)

Which prompts a question which might seem dumb. Is elite speed, as it regards to top gear, essential for a running back? Considering they spend 95% of their plays fighting for yardage, is high end speed critical? Perhaps that's what prevented Robinson from getting drafted because he self-admittedly lacks a tall gear. But as we can see from the results of his play, it matters little in establishing him as a premier RB.

It seems essential for a RB to be drafted early, but it sure isn't essential for them to be successful if the other traits are in proper form.
Funny how they fall down those draft boards when they don't have that 40 time, huh? Just one more reason so many GMs don't bother with early round backs.
Top end speed for a RB is not essential but is always a plus. Emmitt Smith wasn’t a homerun hitter.
Give me a back with vision, burst, and balance. See the hole, get to the hole, stay on his feet. I don't care about his speed after 55 yards, I want him to get me 8 every time.

Depends on their skill set. I'd say Fournette and Robinson have similar speed/burst. Difference is Fournette has bad vision, makes the wrong read and hits the wrong holes. He has some size to him which helps him cover for his bad play. Robinson knows how to play the position, is tough as hell and is fast enough.

Fournette has WAY more top end speed.
Robinson has him beat for days in vision and balance - and they are similar in "burst."
Though I think that burst is often misconstrued or defined differently from one analyst or fan to the next.
Robinson also just finishes stronger and more consistently than LF. He finds those extra scrappy yards much more often.
Yeah I would take Robinson over fournette any day.

Fournette is such a weird player. In his rookie season he was looking for contact, as soon as he got hurt the first time he immediately started spinning/avoiding contact/running out of bounds etc he got soft so fast. Remember when he pointed at the steelers player and toldem to come here to run him over? what the hell happened lol.
Fournette was my favorite player when he was a jag. I like Robinson, but I just cant feel like he is better. I have to see more still. They both are good, so dont get me wrong. Ofcourse I'm all about Robinson and cant wait to see what he does next. Also in aware of how many people on this board hate fournette and think hes not a good running back

The only thing Fournette is better than Robinson at is long speed (that is if he still even has it anymore).
Anything else that has to do with playing RB, Robinson does 10 times better and it isn't even close.

If you assess by feelings then you listen to lies.
He’s a more willing blocker too. Fournette has let the fame and fortune consume him. Robinson just goes to work.
Fournette got run out of town, but he was a fun player to watch. Now Robinson is a fun player to watch. I guess these two players would not work on the same team, so they both are in better places. Go jags!

Agreed, watching him attempt to insert his helmet into Linder's butt was good times, for sure.
Even better, of course, was seeing him repeatedly run down from behind on the off chance whatever lineman was in his direct path managed to get their butt out of his helmets' way.
