If you were a coach, would you want to be here? I would think giving a coach their first HC position would be one of the only ways to get anyone decent. Anyone who comes here clearly has the odds against them.

They offered it to Leftwich. And it wasn’t until a full month after Pedersons first interview and Leftwich telling them he didn’t want Baalke either did they circle back.
This is a disaster and no one is acting like we lost a SB winning coach. People are acting like the Jags have been incompetent the whole time and they let a good coach slip away. Regardless if you think Leftwich will be a good HC or not, they let a good coach who wanted to be here walk away because they can’t do anything right.

Maybe I'm ignorant about the Senior Bowl, but aren't the most desirable players going to end up leaving early anyway and won't play in this game? You're certainly a better developed and more experienced player after 4 to 5 years in college, but on average the level of talent playing in the Senior Bowl is probably lower than the average level of talent of players leaving early because they're more desired. I guess its good for the later round picks to eval this game? Asking sincerely

Leftwich may end up being a successful HC eventually.

Not in an efficient, effective manner.
If we had a caching staff in place, they could have discussed with the scouts exactly the type of players they are looking for at every position. They could have conducted interviews with the players to get some insight as to their character, work ethic, etc.
Drafting effectively is hard enough as it is without the added disadvantage of not having a coach (possibly a GM) two days before the Senior Bowl.

Where is this documented? It's all rumoured here but I've seen it nowhere. I put that gossip down to his agent trying to build hype and maximum interview opportunities that to genuine Jags leaking. People here are jumping to the hype man's tune. Follow the monied interests when considering leaks and you'll know where it's coming from and if it's worthwhile.
If Leftwich were lined up to interview with 6 of the 8 clubs then I would think the leaks are coming from the Jags as they try to convince everyone else to give up and pursue easier paths. Seeing as Leftwich only got interviews with 2 of the 8 then I think it's much more likely the leaks are from his agent who is trying to get a few more clubs to talk to his guy.

I think you've got it. The Senior Bowl provides a stage for players who might be good options at all rounds. Like guys from small schools who have talent, but haven't received the visibility of other players.

The Senior bowl is the most over-hyped mess I keep reading about. How many times have Jaguars coaches coached there and had scouts there? Still didn't help us pick the right players most of the time.

Yes pederson was a better candidate prior to the process, but he had no interest in the job and is having to be persuaded to take it. The fact he interviewed 4 days ago and hasn’t been announced shows he’s not that keen even with the idea of Spielmen

Who said Jags coaches won't be there? As far as I'm aware position coaches remain all across the team, only the DC roll being unfilled.

Or . . . it could take a few days to negotiate contracts for Pederson and Spielman both?

This could have been because Pederson was an early interviewee who didn't want to work with Baalke, so they pursued other options - which led to Leftwich. And at what point did Leftwich say he wanted Baalke out and his preferred candidate in? From what I understand he was noncommittal about working with Baalke during the interview, so he didn't raise the concern about Baalke until later - perhaps after the initial offer was made.
I don't think you can say for certain that Pederson wasn't a more desirable option than Leftwich. We just don't know that for certain.
