Draft Hutch or Thibs; I want to be DEEP at pass rusher, and have so much talent that double blocking isnt an option for an opposing Oline.
We have the OT's with Little & Cam (not high on Taylor but he's fine enough as depth) just don't overdraft or overpay for the Guard spots ..... it should be the easiest position to find for an NFL roster. Just get competent play that can block well enough to run the ball and not get Trevor killed.

With Seattle in the top 10 with a bunch of picks and in need of a QB, that could be the start of a bidding war.
Trading back would be whats best for the team. To be honest I am not really sold on anyone at 1 overall. IF we can trade down into the top 10 and pick up more picks, I am sold.
I don't think you can say it's best without knowing the package we (hypothetically) accept. If we trade back to 9, but only net a fourth round pick, is that what's best? Probably not.
I have a feeling the plateau at the top of this darft is gonna force you to take a loss in comparison to previous years' trades if you want to get off of R1P1. In other words, if we want to move, we probably will be able to do so. But expecting a glut of high picks in return is likely foolishness.
Gonna be a crazy couple a months....
If Detroit wants to move up 1 spot what would it take? I don't want to trade back now. Really want Hutch

It is interesting to note that on the Detroit fan forums viewed yesterday, with the Cam tag, there are no fan posts wanting to move up to pick 1 for Hutchinson. Most are just fine with picking the next DL up, naming often either Kayvon Thibodeaux or Travon Walker. Before the Cam tag, their board's poll for pick number 2 was about 65% for Hutchinson.
Not sure what it would take. In 2017, the Bears moved up from pick 3 to pick 2, and it cost them a 3rd, a 4th, and a 3rd in the next year's draft.

Travon Walker really helped himself at the Combine. I think he's moved into the #2 edge rusher position. I can see where Thibodeaux's personality might rub some people the wrong way and I think that may cause him to slip a bit.
I don't want Thibodeaux at all. I need players who are fully invested in football.

Agreed, if he's got motivation problems now. How's he gonna be better with a bag full o'cash?
Looking at "Over the Cap", we could definitely create even MORE space by cutting Brandon Linder/Carlos Hyde. Between the two of them, the team could free up an additional 11.5 million in cap space with a dead money hit of less than half a million. That would put them back at almost 50 million in cap space to play with even after Cam Robinson's tag is applied.

I think we'd be foolish to cut Linder. OTH, why the heck is Hyde still on the roster???

Maybe he looked at the top of the draft board and is being a tad over dramatic?

Probably will make whomever drafts him call him Thibo...
Hopefully it won't be us. That interview he gave a while back was pretty damning to his character for me.

Linder is never healthy, is on the last year of his deal and we could save $9.5 million by cutting him. This draft is
loaded with good Center prospects as well. The most I've seen in a very long time. Now is the time to draft a Center.

I feel like ever since Alex Mack Centers have been way over rated. Also everything you said about Linder is spot on.

NCJag's original e-mail is a little misleading in almost all of that cap savings results from Linder. Cutting Hyde would save us less than $2 million and that assumes we went with 52 players. Even if you factor a rookie minimum salary as his replacement, the savings comes to about $1.3 million. The savings is even less if we replace him with a veteran. The point is that there's no significant cap savings by cutting Hyde.
As for Linder, I wouldn't go as far to call it "foolish", but I would keep him. We already have a bunch of holes to fill on the team, let's not create more. We don't know how the draft will fall and I don't like reaching for a need. Rookies also sometimes take time to develop. If there's good value at center in the draft in the mid or late rounds, we can still take him. He can be a backup for a year and if he looks good, he can take over next year as our center for the future.

Why? When is the last time Linder has finished a season?

We re-signed Shatley, so we really don't need Linder. Half the time we're rolling with Shatley anyway, because Linder is always hurt. Draft a Center and if he isn't ready, sit him behind Shatley until he is. This is a very, very talented Center class. I think we can find a very good one in that 3-5 round draft range.

2019. That’s the ONLY season he played all 16 games in a season. He’s played 88 out of 129 total games in his career, or 68%. The last 4 years he’s played 9,16,9, and 9 games.
For 9.5 million, he’s not worth it.
What do you think about the fit of Kyle Van Noy with this team?
I agree that this is the year to draft a center.
I agree that we should draft a center, but I do not think we should cut Linder. The goal of the offseason isn't to create cap space, it's to get a good team on the field in the fall. So unless we really need that cap space, which we don't at the moment, there is no need to cut our best center. Granted, down the road, if we come up with a better player for less money, then we can make a move, but to cut the guy just to create cap space, when we have loads of unused cap space already, would not be a good move in my opinion.
