Quote:I am sure you know the pledge is not only to the flag but also 'to the Republic for which it stands'. Ultimately we all are responsible for what gets done, so by trying to raise awareness of all of us to things he believes should be better, it seems he is doing exactly what you are saying he ought to be. Bringing awareness is not tangible? Seems to me the first step in finding solutions is recognizing that there is a problem. I am a bit curious, though, about how successful his 'raising awareness' actually has been. You seem to think that his action of not standing during a pledge or an anthem really solves anything. While that much is true, what did you think of his remarks in the press conference afterwards (I linked the remarks a good while ago in the thread, the complete transcript was an article on ESPN).

It's late and I'm tired and don't have the brain function to reply here other than to say I get what you're saying and thanks for the reminder of the link you shared. Can you repost it so I can read it? I meant to read it before buy honestly I forgot.
Wow reading this thread makes you really appreciate having public healthcare.

Hope things improve for you Dakota.
Quote:Decreased the deficit? Are you completely mad?? And do you know why healthcare costs are spiraling out of control? Because insurance keeps rising, has been for years, and under Obamacare insurance premiums are skyrocketing due to the younger generations not buying into it which the authors of the ACA counted on to help the high cost of care for senior citizens. The insurance companies have to recoup somehow so they raise their premiums, some by 1000% this year.

And I don't know what tax bracket you fall into but his time in the WH has done nothing to improve our finances.

Healthcare costs have been rising for years because we didn't follow the lead of our allies after WWII and tie it to our annual governmental budget. There's a whole dark history on the American healthcare system (which members of Congress will keep repeating is the greatest healthcare system in the world) that is predicated on profitability. I'm not saying Obamacare is perfect, but it was an attempt to curb this (and very similar to the plan Romney used for his state). An attempt to fix a system that was already spiralling out of control before you ever heard the name Obama.

Sure, here it is. I got mixed up, it was the Kaepernick thread wnere I had posted it.
South Park leaked a clip of a revised anthem around the Kap protest that I think members from both sides of this debate will be able to enjoy. Love them or hate them, they take irreverent satire to new heights.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

And I know healthcare costs have been going up for years, nay, decades. I just graduated from a class for medical admin assistant and medical billing and coding and both went into how much the triad of healthcare providers, the government and insurance companies are all best buddies. A couple of times I had to just stop reading and take a walk around my house a few laps because I was so frustrated by it all. Actually the healthcare providers get the short end of the stick more often than not but that's not this discussion. I was commenting on Obamacare simply because it was the ongoing conversation. It all probably looked great on paper but in reality it has failed. Even if the cost of healthcare was to stabilize, the insurance premiums would still keep people from getting insurance.
American healthcare = Don't get sick.

If you get sick, don't go to the doctor. Put some tussin on it.
