Quote:Jack can play any lb spot
Agreed, but he may be better in space than lined up over a TE and holding the point of attack. Is the difference between Jack in space and Jack at the LOS > the difference between Jack and Telvin and Jack and Skuta?
All this talk about Gus not fitting the scheme to the players and instead, is fitting the players to the scheme is very true.
I'm waiting to see what Wash does week 1 before I lay down judgement though. You hope the best players are on the field, and you hope the defense is catered to the strength of the players. That's what the greats coaches do. With versatile, talented guys like Telvin, Jack, Ramsey, and Fowler, it would be a shame to waste their talents by pegging them into a certain position. Look at what Arizona does with their guys, like Buchanon and Mathieu.
Quote:Telvin is the least of my worries
No one was complaining about his pass coverage abilities after the pick six in London, or the pick ran back to the 3 vs Cleveland, or the pass defensed that ended the Dolphins game.
idk why they cant just start Jack at ilb
Poz is better at making calls and stopping the run which is fine but hes an average lb at best. Jack can do a good enough job against the run and his coverage ability make him way more valuable than poz. If he truly deserved to go top 5 he isnt going to lose us games just off his inexperience so let him start and get our two best lbs get on the field.
Quote:OTTO is SAM. Bit more blitzing but essentially the same.
Just throw Jack there, he's not allergic to blitzing. He'll probably end up being a pro bowler wherever he plays.

Bruce Arians is a great coach, and found a way to utilize his best players.
SMITH - PULLARD - JACK
There, I said it.
Quote:I think Jack could be good AT OTTO or great at will or Mike.
The question is whether you would like a great, good, and average guy at LB, or three good guys at LB.
Though we don't know for certain, it appears the team might prefer having the great guy on the field than the three good guys.
Agree.
Yet there could be another option.
Telvin sits on run downs while Jack is Will for 2016.
Then Jack becomes MLB in 2017 with Telvin returning to full time Will.
Jack probably fits best at Will today, and is unfortunately the same position you get the best out of Telvin as well.
Tomorrow is another story, particularly with Poz having another year on the tires by then.
The OTTO LB has to engage blockers on a regular basis.
Jack may be able to physically handle engaging blockers, but having to physically engage blockers limits the opportunities to utilize his speed which his greatest asset.
Jack is his most dangerous playing in space. To put him at a position that does not allow him to do that would be under utilizing him.

Leaving him on the bench means you don't utilize him at all.

That's like saying MJD was a pretty good blocker so we needed to start him at fullback with Taylor otherwise we wouldn't be utilizing him.
Just because someone doesn't have an "official" starting role doesn't mean they can't have a tremendous impact.

Its nothing like that at all. Its about getting Jack as much snaps as you can and having your best three LBs on the field. The best way to do this in my opinion is to put Jack at OTTO.
The ones saying telvin isn't good in coverage basing it off a few preseason games have really lost it. How about his whole body of work? Saying Poz is better than telvin in coverage is just stupid.

It's exactly like that.
OTTO limits Jack from taking full advantage of his skill set just like playing FB would limit MJD.

Hes never been great in coverage
Both fullback and halfback are running backs and at times have similar functions, just like the OTTO and the other LB positions, but each position has a different skill sets that excels at the position.
Not using a player's skill set at their most suitable position is wasting that skill
If we have to bench our rising star LB to put Jack in the game, we're doing something wrong.
