Quote:It's exactly like that.

OTTO limits Jack from taking full advantage of his skill set just like playing FB would limit MJD.

I don't think anyone would argue that MJD was a FB or should play FB under any circumstances. MJD was a good pass blocker not a run blocker.

The way I look at is the more Jack is on the field the better our defense is as a whole. Putting him at WILL takes Telvin off the field, putting him at MLB keeps Poz off the field and putting him at OTTO keeps Skuta off the field. Our best LB group is Jack-Poz-Smith so I would try play them as much as possible when we have to have 3 LBs on the field.
Quote:If we have to bench our rising star LB to put Jack in the game, we're doing something wrong.
Like when we would put in MJD in certain situations for Taylor?

Yeah, that never worked out.

What a terrible analogy.

Are you comparing playing Jack instead of Skuta to having MJD and Freddy T running the ball?
Sadly because of the stupid, unproductive, meaningless " Otto " position Poz, Jack, and Smith probably will never see the field together.

More than likely Jack will start stealing snaps from Telvin unfortunately. Which is stupid. But Gus Bradley is our head coach.

In my perfect world they would scrap this " Otto " position and put the 3 best LBs on the field. Which are Poz, Smith, and Jack
I never thought that the selection of Jack in the second round, and him having a preseason game where he looked very good could, cause so much angst in the fan base.

Since when is Skuta our rising young star?

You might want to actually read what I quoted.

It's still a terrible analogy. You can't compare a LB position to the RB position. Only one can be on the field, whereas you can have three on the field at any given time.
We've got too many good players.

Really guys?

It's a good problem to have. Welcome to the big leagues.

You're trying to compare MJD playing FB and/or MJD and Taylor to us trying to fit Jack into the defense. Neither of the comparisons work.
Anybody who wants telvin on the bench is a tard. There I said it.

No, 2 RBs can be on the field. The HB and the FB. Just because you have two players that have great HB skills doesn't mean you should play one at FB just to get both of them on the field.

Having a player like Jack play a position that requires him to take on blockers and not utilize his speed is the equivalent of putting a guy MJD who's skills are best suited for HB at a position like FB that has him mostly taking on defenders.

Just because 2 positions are a similar type of position doesn't make the particular skill sets interchangeable.

You can twist this anyway you want, but it still doesn't compare to LB's.

The point is there's a way to put them both on the field together, instead of benching one or the other. It's been said already, but anyone that wants to put Telvin on the bench is a tard.

You don't have to make Jack play a position that doesn't take advantage of his skill set in order to get both of them on the field at the same time.

Jack is a rookie and heir apparent to the MLB. He is going to learn his craft playing a rotational role at the two LB positions that fit best with his talent, MLB and WLB.

But let's be realistic here. If Jack excels at WLB more than he does at MLB and more than Telvin does at WLB, Telvin becomes quality trade bait.

Telvin"s talent turns into improvement somewhere else of need. Not a bad thing at all.
I'd rather pull Cyprien off the field than Skuta. We need the pass rush ability Skuta can bring.

Jack or Smith can play as a pseudo SS on first and second down.

People really have to get rid of this either or mentality. One doesn't necessarily exclude the other.
C'mon, plenty of us have been saying Telvin is bad in coverage since day 1, not just since he's been gashed this preseason. He and Poz were the dead last duo in nickel LB yards given up, and it sure wasn't all on Poz.

Quote:No one was complaining about his pass coverage abilities after the pick six in London, or the pick ran back to the 3 vs Cleveland, or the pass defensed that ended the Dolphins game.
Poz has made some big interceptions too, yet we all acknowledge he is terrible in pass defense. Telvin's the same way. A few splash plays here and there doesn't erase a body of work that is negative in pass protection the vast majority of the time.
I dont get it either why he is a backup when 2 of your 3 starting 4-3 backers are suspect. Hopefully its just for a few weeks and he gets in on a lot of nickel sub packages. Dude should be a starter in the 4-3 base though..
