His RAS indicates things you cannot teach nor coach. He has elite speed for his position. His strength is also more than adequate for this level. The only thing that kept him from having a higher RAS? His height. He's 6'4. Not 6'5+. Not really concerned about that.
The biggest takeaway I have is that he FITS this offensive scheme PERFECTLY. They ran quick, RPO, zone blocking schemes at Oklahoma and that's basically what we like to run here offensively. I love this pick. I think he'll be a great fit at LT or RT. His speed is the best part of his game though along with him being a natural scheme fit.

Moved down and he was still available. It's a good pick. Didn't feel they would go OL in the first round before the news about Robinson. This will be interesting. They could put Anton at LG. I feel they may be eyeing Dawand Jones at RT in the 2nd round. If they can't get him, I hope they grab Cam Smith from South Carolina who I feel will be one of the best DBs in the long run from this draft class.

This is ideal. In bold. I wouldn't have been mad if they took him last night at 24. Joey Porter Jr. is probably the first guy to come off the board tonight. Makes too much sense with Pittsburgh RIGHT THERE.
Cam Smith is worth trading up for. Outside of him I would say our next best bet would be Julius Brents, as far as adding a pure, natural CB on the outside to compliment an ascending Tyson Campbell. Gives us the option of moving Williams back to the slot, or, again, there's a ton of picks we now have to add a nickel CB like Mekhi Blackmon, Riley Moss or Garrett Williams.
Baalke is [BLEEP] smart. What he did last night is setting this team up to make a move or two before we get into the real meat and potatoes of this draft starting Saturday. He's probably looking to make some good, solid "base hits" in RD2 and RD3 and then whatever is left is all about adding more athletic big guys as depth and developmental players to take over in 2024.
It's early. But, this is what you're supposed to do as a team. When you make big splashes in free agency, you have to game the draft system better, trading up last year into RD1 last year and now trading down in RD1, in this draft class? Smart.

Baalke also said he is a culture fit. He has the kind of maturity that is necessary to be a good pro.

Which is always GREAT to hear when you realize that he just turned 21 back in February. The one thing I want to mention. Since Baalke pointed it out. While we're on the topic of culture. He mentioned something to the tune of 122 or 127 prospects that they considered draftable and they check all their boxes, scheme, culture, upside, etc.
There's no way they sit on all of these selections this weekend. That's the exciting part for me in this draft. Knowing that he's going to come up at some point more than once probably tonight or very early first thing tomorrow when the 4th RD starts. It's either that, or, they start trading picks away for 2024 selections which is also not a bad idea.
The skill position players look a little more promising going into next year. Especially early. I would love having the ability to trade up in next year's draft to potentially snag a monster like Harrison Jr. out of OSU or Brock Bowers out of UGA. It's early. I know. LOL. But you can never look too far ahead. Especially with Engram playing on a tag in 2023 and Ridley still having to hit the field and show he's going to command top dollar.

It's going to grow on everybody when you realize he's giving Lawrence more time in the pocket to connect the big plays downfield more consistently that we lacked last year. We should expect to see at least four to five DEEP shots coming per game now. Just like what you see in Kansas City, Buffalo, Miami, etc.

I like two more Sooners from this class as well.
Eric Gray at RB and Brayden Willis at TE/FB/HB. Potentially great value picks in RD6 and RD7.

I really don't think round 1 could have gone any better for the Jags. Snag one of the best tackles in the class (absolute value as well), trade back twice to gather more picks in a pretty deep class and you set yourself up to move up if you want. Great day 1.

I really like this pick.
Have to confess I didn't know who he was this time yesterday. Wasn't on my radar at all.
However we lost Taylor in FA. Cam is ,almost certainly, suspended for at least the start of the season and may be gone at the end anyway.
This guy is young, has fantastic traits and was projected around late first by almost everyone so not a reach. Also traded down twice for more picks
Protecting Tlaw has to be priority 1,2 and 3 for us so I don't see what's not to like.
Great pick.

I agree with this. He is a upside pick. Hopefully he gets a little more nasty to him and improves in run blocking. The potential is there to be very good.

With me not watching much college football, every pick is a blank slate and I hope for the best. I do like the discussions on the boards, thanks for discourse and respectful discussions.

Picking an OT is never a sexy pick, but I like this one. Replacing Taylor is a big deal, and the guy sounds like he has potential. Love that he's flexible in what he can do. I really hate that we used a first round pick at least partially to respond to what Cam Robinson did though. If this selection allows the Jags to part ways with Cam next year, it was worth it.

Although I would have been more excited with one of the two corners, Harrison was probably the right pick. Keeping Trevor healthy has to be the priority and Harrison was clearly the best tackle available. If he gets stronger, it wouldn't surprise me if he eventually becomes a pro-bowler like many previous Sooners.

All the talk about scheme fits.. Dawand Jones is not very mobile. To complement the Harrison pick, I'd rather draft tackle who can move inside, like Mauch or Bergeron, if either falls to #56. I'd like to see two 2nd round picks, as that's where the value is in this draft. Ideally, one would be another O-lineman and the other CB/Edge (whomever is the best value at that spot).

Smart pick, you have to protect your franchise QB… now go get a solid TE
04-28-2023, 11:13 AM
The achilles heel of this offense is/will be the offensive line. We aren't going to draft a defensive MVP at 24 or later. I like that we should be able to trade up and get a quality DB/TE tonight or tomorrow.
04-28-2023, 11:14 AM
I’m just a fan, but to me this pick indicates Baalke gets it. He is going to quality/substance instead of flash. Once you have an elite QB, the most important thing is to provide protection. How did Tom Brady operate at such an elite level all those years with average receivers? He has a great o-line with quick reads.
