Nope. Not after last season where it was obvious strength was not one of his... strengths. I'd like to see it for myself, but if this is still an issue for him, hard to see how Pillow Fortner makes the 53. He clearly didn't take my offseason advice.
Are worried are we about a new defensive front and system when your first game is against the Dolphins scheme and speed that is designed to confuse you and get the ball out well before the pass rush can affect Tua?

This just in, leopards don't change their spots. Details at 11.

No
I'd be worried about a new secondary with new coaches, new scheme, and likely 3 out of 5 new players in nickel. They are going to need time to gel and week one will be tough no matter how you spin it IMO.
The ball is gonna come out quick on 80% of Miami's passing snaps and everyone knows it. Expecting the pass rush to do much more than move Tua off his spot occasionally is likely a fool's errand.
Luckily our defense is practicing against Pederson's offense which also gets the ball out quick more than most other offenses. The quickest two times of release between the snap and the throw the past two seasons have come from Miami and Jacksonville.

No.
I have a gaping hole in the side of my house, the sidewall is collapsing, and tarps are leaking into the house (all of this will be rebuilt in time). I'm worried that the roof collapses. I'm worried that my insurer is gonna drag this out. I'm worried that there's unseen issues resulting from the ongoing state of disaster my home is in. I'm worried that my 17 year old car fizzles out while I'm busy paying both a mortgage and a rent payment. I'm worried that my MiL will continue making dumb financial decisions and have to move in with us.
Football games fret me not. If you are worried about the Phins game, you got it good, friend.

All this would normally worry me, however, I have decided not to play in that game.

Sorry to hear about your current state of affairs, but the last bolded part hits close to home for me as well. How long have you been dealing with all this? I seem to remember you mentioning it when it happened, but that seems like a long while ago unless I'm confusing this with something or someone else.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars’ front seven is another unit not quite adding up to the sum of its parts. The talent of Josh Allen and Travon Walker set an elite ceiling, but the team only ranked 11th in pressure rate generated in 2.5 seconds or less.
17. Houston Texans
Houston ranked sixth in pressure rate generated in 2.5 seconds or less last season. The unit will likely continue to improve after the addition of Danielle Hunter and the continued development of Will Anderson Jr.
Most of the dialogue throughout the list is based on the 'pressure generated in 2.5 seconds,' Given that the Texans were sixth last year, prior to adding Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry, makes the #17 ranking odd.
It's one metric out of dozens of metrics that factor into the talent and effectiveness of a front 7
Just because he cites it, that doesn't mean it is his primary or overarching method of reaching a grade or rank for each group of linemen and linebackers
Fair enough, but the Texans were 6th in run defense as well. So 6th in quick pressure, 6th in run defense, add in a 2X All Pro DE, a DT/DE with 11.5 sacks, a MLB who had the 5th most tackles, and a DROY going into year 2 and we get...17th in the league. I'm sticking with "odd."

Tornado hit the house in May, but mom's been on her own since Dad passed in Dec. Sorry, didn't mean to derail thread, but worrying about football is just silly.

They signed the guy we had in the middle, maybe that explains the flip-flop of rankings.

For those who were concerned about Armstead's availability, it appears he is indeed still on pace to play early on in the regular season:
The Jaguars continue to wait on the return of their prized free agent acquisition, defensive lineman Arik Armstead.
Armstead has been held out of most of the team's offseason program and all of training camp thus far, working back from offseason knee surgery.
Quote:On Monday, Pederson reiterated what he's said previously about Armstead's recovery timeline, noting that the veteran is "close" to returning. Pederson also said he isn't concerned yet about his availability for Week 1 of the regular season.
“No, no, no. We’ve got plenty of time still," said Pederson.

The reports on Hamilton are encouraging though. If we can get some push out of Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson though earlier on that would be great. We'll see.
Either way, once Armstead is out there, we can expect a lot of disruption and space being occupied to free up everybody else.

Well at least when Hamilton comes out he will be spelled by another player 300+ lbs not 287. I believe Hamilton is 335, Jefferson 313 and Smith 307 ?

I can't wait to see Walker/Hamilton/Armstead/Hines-Allen on third and more than 3 yards.

Yeah. We've got some big uglies now in the middle. Maason is also a freak athlete, that's not a slow moving 307. Hopefully he jumps up early in play. I was encouraged when I saw he was either the highest graded or within the top two, three graded in QB pressures last year in college.

Same. Hopefully it's on par if not better than what we saw out of that 2017 front four between Campbell, Jackson, Allen and Ngakoue.

Man I hope this continues into the regular season. The potential is scary for both players

Maason's numbers are not surprising. That's exactly what he did last year at LSU down the stretch and that's exactly why they drafted him. We had no presence inside with ability to collapse the pocket. We now have him, Hamilton and Armstead.
Cole was always intriguing. Every time I ran mock drafts he routinely kept coming up in RD7 for me in the simulator. He had Baalke written all over him because of the RAS he was capable of producing. He has to be signed to the active roster though. He won't last long on the practice squad.

Great news ! now in the next draft we can do the same for the o-line.

The best thing that could happen to this D is for Smith to live up to his potential. He's built Ike Chris Jones with smaller hands. He had the highest ceiling of all the DTs in the draft imo with his size and length but risky. He could be the pick that makes this draft great.
