Miami lost Wilkins and the Rams lost AD. We added Armstead yet they still have Mia and LAR dline rated above ours. PFF Hopefully will be eating a lot of crow with these trash rankings.

LA is the second biggest market and Miami is seventh. Duval is 40th. (All according to US Census) Only stat you need to know when looking at PFF rankings.

PFF tries but like everything and everyone else trying to predict the future it boils down to opinion.

I also think they stick their D-list crew on our film when they put together their ratings.

Oof.  I hope his knee recovery allows him to come back to relative full health or this will look very bad.  They were already aware of the plantar fasciitis issue.

Pederson, from the posted article, says he's looking at late season for Armstead to make an impact, so this is certainly more than a short-term PUP designation.  In order for Arik to 'earn' his salary he's going to have to bring a lot of heat to give the Jags a push during the playoff spot/seeding time.

Hopefully his influence behind the scenes on our young group of DLineman proves as much worth as he is on field

I don't want to 'jump the shark,' but the more I've looked into Armstead's injury/surgery I'd be surprised if his contract doesn't have an injury clause in there.  To offer $28M guaranteed to a player with plantar fasciitis and is already scheduled to have surgery to fix his torn meniscus doesn't seem to be fiscally sound.

I agree.  I went looking for such a clause on Spotrac after the news came out but didn't see any mention of it.  It might not be something that is disclosed unless someone from the team announces it?  I don't know.  I don't know if Spotrac actually gets to lay eyes on the contract or just compiles what's been reported.  But that's why I said this could look very bad (for Baalke) if the knee remains a problem on top of the known plantar fasciitis issue.

Fingers crossed we see a healthy Armstead on the field by November.

Anyway, Warren Sharp has been ranking position groups lately ahead of camp and here is how the AFCS teams stack up with their front sevens on defense:

Jaguars #6
colts #10
tinhorns #17
tacks #30

Somewhat strange rankings (from a Texans' fan POV) based on the dialog in the article.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars’ front seven is another unit not quite adding up to the sum of its parts. The talent of Josh Allen and Travon Walker set an elite ceiling, but the team only ranked 11th in pressure rate generated in 2.5 seconds or less.

17. Houston Texans

Houston ranked sixth in pressure rate generated in 2.5 seconds or less last season. The unit will likely continue to improve after the addition of Danielle Hunter and the continued development of Will Anderson Jr.

Most of the dialogue throughout the list is based on the 'pressure generated in 2.5 seconds,' Given that the Texans were sixth last year, prior to adding Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry, makes the #17 ranking odd.

It's one metric out of dozens of metrics that factor into the talent and effectiveness of a front 7

Just because he cites it, that doesn't mean it is his primary or overarching method of reaching a grade or rank for each group of linemen and linebackers

Anyone go today? Heard Mia on 1010 report about the o-line working the sled. She indicated she watched Fortner struggle with it. Then Ezra and a few others followed moving it real easily. I believe she used the phrase threw it around.. Just hoping it was day one bugs for Fortner.

Well hopefully someone steps up to be the clear backup C and they can cut him.

Well, I understand your sentiment. However, I was looking for verification as I view Mia as maybe not the best single source.  Searcy did say while he likes Fortner the guy just doesn't have enough junk in the trunk to be that powerful on the interior at this level.
