I wonder if the guy can be salvaged as a competent backup with enough strength training.
I doubt it.
One of the criticisms I recall about him coming out was he seemed to not play with good bend. In other words he wasn't good at staying low, which is a necessity for good leverage in the run game, and likely one of the reasons the team has such problems getting short yardage push. When the defense is ready for the run they get under him and shove him straight back.

Banking on it. Fits Baalke's M.O during the actual preseason and regular season process.
Unless Tugboat is that guy in short order but it's a tall order given his situation from last year.
I would just run the gauntlet at both of them all summer. Put him and Fortner in alternating RG/C positions in drills while Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson work them in 1 Vs. 1 or 2 Vs. 2 situations.

Yes a very early Christmas present would be greatly appreciated
I mean Santa does have the build to play centre
I just don't want another ON and OFF again season where we just lose out on the postseason at the end.

So you want full consistency?

no rec because you failed to post in all-caps. C'mon, man.
Both Texans and Jags schedules look really tough right now. Also the AFC East vs AFC South records will be really big because I anticipate 4 of the playoff teams (2 division winners and 2 WCs) coming from 6 of the teams in those divisions (excluding Tennessee and New England). I get that all changes once the games are actually played, teams get exposed, and/or injuries pile up.
Jags also have to finally take care of their own division. Even 4-2 in division may not be good enough.
I understand that we would all be frustrated with 9-8 record, but they may need to be better than 0.500 against playoff teams to better that mark.
TL shouldn’t have played in two of the last 6 games. Believe Jags backup would have won one or two of those last 6.
Terrible coaching decision. Press calling plays was horrific.

I agree with this. Between the concussion and throwing shoulder injury he could have used another week off. It's hard to do [BLEEP] effectively though when you can't move the ball on the ground and pick-up chump change to keep a drive going. To keep a defense honest, etc.
I hope this is resolved this year. The whole subject with Press though, it's hit or miss for me. I know it'll rile up some folks on here, but, if this offense starts to stall or sputter here and there and they get on a losing streak like they did last year?
Doug's going to need to takeover the reign's full time in my opinion. Especially now with all of the money that's been tossed around this off season and the extensions that have been made. He was able to throw Mike Caldwell to the wolves after the season ended. He might have to do it again this year with Press...

Play calling is irrelevant when your players suck.

Right. So, who gets blamed for that though? Felt like there was some finger pointing earlier on this year when the season ended. Baalke stated that players need to be coached up, etc.
If they fall short again like they did last year, and, they stay relatively healthy? Who is getting canned this time? Baalke? Press? Both?

The guy who picks the players blames the coaches when they're no good? Whut???
We know Doug's offense works.
We know Baalke's drafting mostly doesn't.

Pretty sure we got screwed in the Cincinnati game that Trev got hurt in. We win that one or any of the others down the stretch minus the Carolina game we won with Beathard.. we had the division because of how good we were early-mid season. We fell off the horse.

The horse got shot out from under us.

Hopefully we dont have to see the offense sputter to get the change and Doug is the play caller week 1. Doug's play calling is one of the things that make him a great coach.

We'll see. Just going to trust the process. We had seldom complaints as a fanbase when they were off to an 8 - 3 start with one seed implications on the line. They then proceed to fall apart due to injuries and that second half collapse was enough to make a Mike Tice Viking's team blush in envy.
Really boils down to health in my opinion this year, as it does for most teams, however, the amount of injuries they had last year? It was rough. Really rough. We took too many hits at key areas and it bit the team in the [BLEEP] heavily.
Perfect storm really. Started losing our critical pieces right when the schedule was beginning to become critical opponent wise with that gauntlet of AFC North games that came up. Didn't help getting smacked around by the 49ers first as well.

Even the 8-3 stretch the offense never really got in a rythm and there were a number of complaints and concerns. I hope the offense is much better than it was last year in the first 11 games because it wasnt very good or consistent.

Well, they had the 31st best line in the whole League. It's amazing how well they did despite that fact.

After that 49ers game, Trevor and the offense was starting to heat up. He had 9 tds and only 1 turnover(wasn't even his fault. It was the pass interference they didnt get called against Engram) through nearly 3 games before the ankle injury derailed it all.
