Quote:You really are dream citizens. You all pay taxes but expect absolutely nothing in return.

Other countries pay similar tax amounts and get a fully funded health care in return oh and decent public transport etc...

There's only a few things the government should do. Ours currently does too much and takes too much of our money too do it. Smaller government and smaller taxes is what we want.

But while you are paying tax, may as well get some services right?

You know the story about the monkey and the jar?

Shhh l, don't tell them that the founders had no problems with taxes.

Even squelched a rebellion in the early days over taxing distilled liquor.

But hey they know the constitution better than George Washington did.

I don't have a problem with taxes, just our current tax code and the size and scope of the government.
Quote:So you think the Constitution is an accessory to armed robbery.  OK.  Fair enough.

I think the Constitution is a social contract.

I think I'll go with my opinion.

There you go with "social contract" again. Wow, your professors sure were good at brainwashing.

Lol. We don't need no education, huh?

So, you clearly disagree. But at least I provided a viewpoint, instead of just calling you a moron...

Why not provide your point of view as opposed to just insulting me as being brainwashed?
Quote:The Congress forbade such activity for a loooong time until certain politicians learned to use it for their own gain and became powerful enough to implement their nefarious ideas.

So amendments are unconstitutional now?

The fact is that income taxes are going nowhere. In the modern age, it's kinda needed to fund a strong society that can thrive in the age of technology and global interconnectivity.

I'm sorry, y'all. But unless an asteroid or a nuclear war happens we're not going back to the 1600 and 1700s.

And besides, who would want to?

Education, yes! We don't need brainwashing. I'm sorry so many have been subjected to it. "Social contract" indeed! I find it hard to believe that anyone would buy such tripe.

I've provided my point of view. Income tax is theft, money taken by force. Government is out of control, and at this point we can only hope that our rulers are benevolent.

The income tax was amended into the Constitution by government, not popular vote. It was sold as a small tax (1-2%) on just the very rich. We're now taxing the average worker at 15%, and the rich at 39%.
What is has become is not what was sold to the state legislatures at the time.

I'm brainwashed, and yet you don't know that we are a democratic republic.

If you don't like it, leave it.

Edit- with all due respect, of course.

But I'm tired of libertarians making these comments with the impression that you guys are the protectors of the constitution bestowed from powers from above, and yet gripe about things that are completely constitutional.

We are supposed to be a democratic republic. The last four presidents were Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton Obama. The next will most likely be Clinton.

"
If you don't like it, leave it."  <--- That works for people who use other countries as an example of how the US should be. The libertarians on this board don't use other countries as an example, they all suck even worse.

Anyone can gripe about things that are in the Constitution. It's not perfect. It was better before the 16th amendment.

Wow if you remember a time before the 16th amendment. That's amazing!!

Oh right you don't

The Constitution was better before the 16th amendment. I didn't have to be alive before the 16th amendment was passed to know that.

Duh!
