Quote:i just rewatched Fowler's Georgia tape. That one single game is better than anything Ngakoue has on tape. He showed pretty much everything you want to see out of an edge rusher. He set a very physical edge, was disruptive in the run game, was throwing both tackles and the tight end around, looked good dropping in coverage, showed great hand usage, a nice club move, bent around the edge several times, rushed from a 3 and 4 point stance and standing up, and played with his hair on fire the whole game for good measure. If Fowler can play like he did against Georgia every week for us then he'll be a special player.

Where'd you see it? Can't find the Georgia game on draft breakdown

Was he up against John Theus? Cause that guy sucks. Weak and slow footed.
I thought the LEO job was to get the QB. Not to stop the run unless the rb just runs into him.

If Yannick is the better pure rusher, wouldn't he be the better LEO?
Worst thing Gus has done to this franchise was bringing the phrases "LEO" and "OTTO"

You understand they're different from RDE and LDE right?

You understand the "Otto" is a linebacker, right?

Pretty sure that was exactly his point. People act like Leo,Otto, Jack, Bandit, or any other unorthodox position is rare in the NFL.
Just don't call Jack's position OFFO

Someone get this guy a slow clap

No, the LEO has to be able to set the edge and play the run as well. As defined by Pete Carroll, the LEO is the best pass rusher on the team and has to be athletic and able move around. But he also must be able to set the edge and play the run in the C Gap. If Ngakoue can't play the run then he should not be the starting LEO.

The LEO is unique because it's an undersized 4-3 weak side DE. It's basically a 3-4 OLB that plays with his hands in the dirt up on the line of scrimmage.

I just watch the full game and skip past Florida offensive series.

Nice. I've only watched the first series and Fowler was causing havoc out there. That speed is crazy.

Sorry but being unblocked on that last 3rd down is not 'causing havoc', it's being gift wrapped free havoc at best. The play before where he stopped Chubb for a short gain was the only play he had that series that would get a plus grade.

If anyone wants to use the copy video at current time feature to link exact plays that they think could be on the level of any of the Ngakoue plays where he actually 'creates havoc' then I am eager to see them.

Conklin is 100x better than John Theus. Yannick embarrassed him.

I believe he had some good games last season vs Iowa and Scherff. I know Scherff eventually moved to G in the NFL, but he's still a good college player. Certainly better than UK's tackles, or even FSU's Erving. The premier match-up I can think off that DFJ had was vs. Lael, and that didn't really go all that well for DFJ.

I didn't link it as part of the Ngakoue plays earlier because it was a very well timed snap jump more than actually whipping him, but Ngakoue made Scherff look like he's playing in quicksand too.

Gotcha, I must have read something wrong. Or have no idea what I'm talking about v

Yannick was pretty much alone on that line. Imagine Malik n Miller beside him

Wow you're so extremely stubborn! It was just one drive of the football game and he makes a play on the running back, then explodes to the QB to force a bad throw. I don't care if he was unblocked. He made a play when the opportunity presented itself! Did that seriously not look explosive to you? He looked faster in that one play than any of our DLineman looked all of last year.

Don't respond with some stupid spider chart.

Or how LTs aren't as important as interior lineman anymore.

I just watched YouTube highlights of Fowler and have seen the explosiveness that separated him (#3 overall) from Yannick (3rd round).

It's blatantly obvious actually.

Obviously. I've seen the explanation for a LEO for about 4 years now.

Btw, how are Jason Babin, Chris Clemons, and Dante Fowler "undersized weak side DEs"? They all played LEO, and are each prototypical DE sized.

News flash, just because one coach calls it a "LEO" doesn't mean it's some new kind of position.
