You still want this guy?
I sure do. I see mostly terrible blocking, LSU had a garbage o-line and every team was focusing on just Fournette. They saw him coming and he still did great. How many of those runs are against 7 and 8 man fronts with linebackers cheating downhill against him? If LSU had a decent playcaller they would have kept the defenses honest with more play action. The way college defenses played against LF would get killed at the pro level. 7-8-9 men in the box to stop him, even Bortles could complete passes against that crap. We may run with a fullback more this year. If you take Fournette at 4, you're wise to play to his strengths. Our offense out of the shotgun has been hot garbage, we can afford to make some changes. Fournette with a fullback and a play caller who can call a game plan would be a nice way to go.

I fully expect the regular Fournette haters to chime in with some crap about Bortles being unable to do a 3 step drop, or fournette being unable to run up the middle, blah blah blah. I just hope all this hate at Fournette won't spoil your moods when we draft him at 4 and he is a rockstar.

KYJaggy, get in here and bash Fournette some more.

When he gets a runway he's scary, when he doesn't get goes down surprisingly easy for a man of his size and supposed power. When he gets the ball from a standstill in shotgun, the runway needs to be even longer for him to gain momentum.

Also, look at how few of those attempts came in the 1st half. You especially don't want the guy who needs to build up momentum getting the ball from the standstill against a defense that is still fresh.

Lastly, look at the teams. @Miss St, @Bama, Syracuse, WKU, Texas Tech. Eastern Michigan, Arkansas. These are almost all from 2015, ya know his "good" season.

Contrast this with Daniel Jeremiah breaking down several McCaffrey plays around the same time this was posted last night. I just can't fathom how someone could honestly look at the two of them without prejudice and come away wanting Fournette more.

That's weird. I see a big back with poor vision that gets tripped up very easily around the LOS. watch the second run in slow motion. Huge cutback lane to his left instead he goes forward/right and gets brought down easily by the ankles
Another example at :34 another huge lane to his right instead his poor vision leads him forward and again easily gets tripped up by the ankles

Reminds me of Adrian Peterson. He isn't a cutback runner which is the norm today, but he's an old-school back who gets positive yards on all these plays. The few times he is met in the backfield, all backs would have the same result, it happens.

Like I mentioned a week ago or so, it was well said on the FBG podcast where Waldman said the reason that you want Fournette lined up behind a fullback isn't so much that he needs a lead blocker as it is he needs a guy to hold his hand through the LOS because his vision is so bad he looks like he's running with a blindfold on.
:49 a huge lane up the middle tries to bounce outside and runs into his lineman

It's very obvious when you watch these runs in slow motion. People say it's poor blocking. The lanes are there he just can't find them
I'm going to create and patent the Leonard Fournette chew toy for you guys and rub your bellies to calm you down on draft day.

And I'll chop up a dead crow for you

haha i'll eat it if I am wrong. My only real concern is the injury situation. Even on these shotgun runs, how many of these runs does he bust right through the first tackle or two, some of these runs he picks up the first through sheer force of will.

What do you think of this cutup and breakdown? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27ortq29_UU

He just confirmed the concerns we have about how he will translate to the NFL. Bad out of shotgun, doesn't make the right reads, need a fullback to show him where to go, needs big holes and momentum to punish the second and third levels.

Like he literally within 10 seconds of saying consistent top 5 pick team cough cough Jaguars he mentions that he won't work well out of a shotgun scheme and if your team runs a shotgun offense you should go Dalvin Cook. Well guess what type of offense Bortles has only ever played in...

"As long as Fournette is able to freely hit that hole with a lead blocker and his mind clear where he doesn't have to think too much while reading the line of scrimmage and second guessing himself or his lead blocker..." Yeah man, how could anyone question why that might not be the best player to take top 5...
Lol the last handful of minutes of that video. I see you just found the slobberiest opinion you could find and hitched your wagon to it. Whew.

I have a very similar opinion to almost everything said in this video.

My only concern is that RB isn't a premium position, so if we do pass on the premium position guys, fournette better be a hit.

KY, why do you think he needs a long run way? Is it lack of vision or athleticism? Both?

Not asking to be cute. I just don't have a horse in the race thus I don't know Fournette's faults.

He's just not an explosive athlete. Fournette has good long speed and power once he gets momentum, but below average short area quickness and explosion means he needs the extra room to get going.
I think we should trade back and take the OT from Winsconsin

I keep thinking about how bad Blake is going to be behind that line. Our chance at winning is if he plays at least decent
That was supposed to make us not want him?

If anything, it makes me want him more. Ppl were bashing him saying he can't run out of the shotgun. There was some poor blocking in there and some poorly designed plays but when he got some blocking he made positive things happen.

I think there is some expectation around here that a RB has to dominate on every carry. That's simply not the case and that's also not factoring in that LSU had no passing game at all to get rid of those 8 man fronts.

I'm sure there is plenty of film of Cook, Mcaffrey, and Mixon running into walls of D or a LB shooting an open gap and getting a TFL.
