This is exciting, he would be a most welcome addition to our team!
That said, now let's make him add a bunch of Atlanta Falcons related people on twitter as well, so all the Jaguars adds appear less suspicious ahah
Between him, Vernon, Mario Williams and all the other FA's we may try to sign this will be a loooong waiting week, can't wait for 9th March (or even 7th March, the first strong rumours will start Flying around as soon as the legal tampering window starts).
Quote:Can't prove anything. For all we know maybe he just likes what these guys have had to say about him...lol
I dunno guy.
There is a lot of chatter about this. I've even seen a "report" on facebook that discussed specific contract terms, which included $20 million guaranteed. If he signs here, and any of that turns out to be accurate, there is a lot that might suggest tampering.
We may or may not be excited about a Irvin signing here.
Would we be as excited if we had to surrender a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him?
To continue on that kid before Christmas analogy, imagine if you found out a week ahead of time where your parents hid the stash of presents and you discovered some of what you were getting. Your parents didn't learn of your discovery, but are in no way inclined to let you open your presents early. If they realized you did something to ruin the surprise, perhaps they make you wait a week or so before playing with it, or, if they are in a particularly nasty mood, they return it.
Would you blab in such a way that your parents may learn of your discovery? If it is something you really want, as best you could, you'd keep your mouth shut about it.
While it's exciting to think about Irvin joining our defense, I think there is too much chatter out there at this point.
I just hope we sign another pass rusher besides Bruce Irvin.
Would us signing Irvin mean that its unlikely that Jack would be drafted?
Quote:Would us signing Irvin mean that its unlikely that Jack would be drafted?
no because jack can play middle linebacker for this team and Poz can hit the bricks.

Pretty much. Except I expect Poz to play out his career here, even in a backup roll to Jack.
Quote:Would us signing Irvin mean that its unlikely that Jack would be drafted?
It might actually make it more likely. Irvin is at least a partial answer to our pass rush needs. That might free us up to draft a non-pass-rusher like Jack.

I wonder if Dave gets hit with tampering.
Wouldn't Seattle have to file against us?
Quote:Thanks for the insight.
How do you think he became a more complete player?
What were his deficiencies as a rookie, and how did he correct them?
He improved most against the run and later also in coverage. I think part of this is just a natural improvement. Most of the players improve during their careers with experience and when the game slow down for them. But I also think moving him to LB in 2013 after we signed Michael Bennett and Cliff Avrill made him overall a better player.
Here is is an article from last year about Irvin:

Quote:Yeah almost seems like a "virtual certainty" if you know what I mean lol.
Now Seahawks fans are bitter saying "have fun over paying him" blah blah blah. He's pretty much exactly what our defense needs.
I don't think we are bitter about losing Irvin. Sure we'd like to have him back but most of us knew he won't stay in Seattle after his 5th year option wasn't picked up last year. Or even before that when we signed K.J. Wright and Bobby Wagner (especially Wright's contract was a bit of surprise to all of us at that time, keeping Wagner was a no brainer) to new contracts. We already have too much money tied up to LB core and defense overall.
Do I think he's worth reported 9-10M/year? No, I'd give him around 7-8 at most but the Jags have a lot of money and most of the players that sign on first day of free agency all over the league are overpaid. Still, if you sign Irvin you'll get a great player that fit your system. And we'll get a nice compensation pick (probably a 3rd rounder like we did for Maxwell) so at the end of the day I think we'll all be happy.
Quote:I would love to see Bruce Irvin and OT Russell Okung signed from Seattle wouldn't hurt the team only make it better but I don't think either will be signed.
If you sign Okung it really allows you to either trade LT Luke Joeckel or have him in a prove it year and leave him for depth this season.
I really think that they will go after Eric Weddle, Chargers FS in Free Agency since Sergio Brown has been a disappointment, but maybe I am wrong?
I think even if you sign Okung it would be smart to keep Joeckel. Okung is injury prone and you can count on him to miss some games every season. He's currently also recovering after shoulder surgery and will represent himself in free agency. I'm really interested to see what he'll get. Maybe he'll prove me wrong but I think he won't be signed to big longterm contract in first days of FA and at the end probably have to settle for a 1-year prove it deal.

I think for that to happen it would have to be reported from the Seahawks and I doubt that Carroll would do that to Bradley. We all know that tampering is happening all over the league at this time though.

Because Irvin followed some people on Twitter and made a tweet about Florida weather?
I think Caldwell and Co. are a little smarter than to tamper...and make it so blatant.
Seems all Irvin to me.
If Bruce Irvin really is coming here, some people on this board are going to be mad.
I want to say maybe about 90% of Irvin's sacks are from stunts, which of course makes them completely irrelevant.

Yeah I hate when people get sacks from stunts. Why even bother doing them except to, you know, generate sacks....

Hahahahaha
You're saying that since his sacks come from plays that are designed to produce sacks, they are irrelevant?
I'm going to cogitate on that for a while. That's a good one.
Seems more like an Odrick signing than a Julius one
Quote:Because Irvin followed some people on Twitter and made a tweet about Florida weather?
Wait until they finally figure out he was tweeting from his residence in Orlando!
Wait... Would we have to surrender a draft pick to sign him?

I remember when Andre Branch got like 6 sacks everyone was saying they were mostly on stunts and that it wasn't an indication of his true pass rushing ability. Not that the human windmill is comparable to Irvin in any way, its just funny how things change with the narrative around here.
