Quote:This was my one and only argument against this. It is taking the kids spring break away. College athletes have a limited amount of free time as it is, and now they are getting their spring break taken. https://www.seccountry.com/sec-news/ncaa...reak-plans
Who cares....
As a college baseball player, we never got a spring break.
I was under the impression we couldn't practice out of season over winter or spring break.
Is it optional? If it is then I don't see the problem. If they'd rather play football than go to spring break then by all means.

Yea, but you football players don't get Thanksgiving break, and a lot miss a lot of Christmas break. Factor in that 90%+ stay on campus during summer now to put in the work to be successful and compete makes taking away their SB that much more ridiculous. Plus baseball is hardly as rigorous as football to where the down time is a welcomed breather.

It's part of their spring practice, so no.
Screw downtime. If I have even a remote shot of getting in the league it's worth it to work on my craft through spring friggin break. Even the idea of winning a national championship would probably be enough motivation. I agree with Vino that it should be optional though; the kids should be able to decide what to do with their free time.

It could never be for real optional though.
I'm a backup linebacker hoping to earn a starting position....but I skip the optional spring break practices...

How can spring practice ever be an optional thing? It can't. It's not like summer workouts that are "optional".
I'm sure the kids are so mad that they have to leave beautiful Michigan weather in early March and go spend it, all expenses paid for, in chilly Florida.
It's funny that NOW the NCAA cares about the students. What about when students have to practice for bowl games during finals week or basketball teams do out-of-the-country summer break tours?

It's not like they are bringing them down here to experience spring break...let's not pretend they are taking the kids on vacation to Disney World. Lol
Yawn.
"There's a lot of teams that travel to the state of Florida, to Arizona, softball team, baseball teams and I bet if you researched I bet some of those teams do that in their offseason, the fall," Harbaugh said. "So I think it's going to be a great use of our time. Our guys are all excited about it, there hasn't been one complaint from any of our players. We're looking forward to a good week."

Which has nothing to do with the point I made...but not surprising.
Well then your point had nothing to do with my point.
My point was that the kids are looking forward to going to Florida. The article I linked supports that.
The article you linked only supports the fact that Harbaugh says the kids are looking forward to it....

Can you show me what kids on the team aren't excited to go to Florida in March?
"Harbaugh also said that by practicing during Michigan's spring break, both winter finals weeks this semester will feature zero football -- allowing players to focus solely on their exams.
"Those will be discretionary weeks so our guys can focus and concentrate on finals," he said. "Then, we'll be outside, we'll be in Florida, we'll go to the beach. It'll be a good time for the team to connect and be together."

Oh the horror......

No kid is going to show their displeasure to Harbaugh or anyone on staff about them losing their spring break and doing what they want to with their friends. Of course they're going to say the right things to them.

Well the burden of proof is on the people implying the kids aren't happy about the trip.

Again, this just sounds TERRIBLE. How on earth can the kids accept this?? Harbaugh hates kids, etc. etc.

I was pointing out that the article didn't say what you said it did. For all I know, every last one of them could be thrilled to death that any plans they might have made for their spring break will now go to waste because they are going to be practicing football in Florida. Although we BOTH know that there are some that are not as happy about it as you and Harbaugh wanna make it seem, but there's not a snowballs chance that you'd ever admit it, so it's not even worth bothering with.
