Full Version: If the Jags are comfortable with his character- Noah Spence should be the pick at 5

Urban Meyers first 5 star recruit at Ohio State, Spence appeared in 12 games as a true freshman, that feat alone is impressive. He was borderline dominant as a true sophomore posting 50 tackles and 8 sacks, the big 10 puts out quality offensive linemen year and out so 8 sacks as a true sophomore is incredible production. He dominated at Eastern Kentucky and the Senior Bowl.

Spence's body of work is of an elite pass rusher with rare power, movement skills & athleticism for a 250 Lb man, I think he's every bit the prospect Von Miller was coming out of Texas A&M, and will have a similar impact in the NFL. I know a lot of Jag fans are on the Jalen Ramsey bandwagon, I was too, and while I think Ramsey can be a difference maker at safety, I'd rather have a guy that can be a difference maker closer to the line of scrimmage. I think Spence is the best defensive prospect in this draft with the biggest upside.

Considering the fact that Vinny Curry re-upped with Phily, Von Miller is obviously staying in Denver, and the Dolphins will certainly find a way to keep Olivier Vernon (by restructuring the ridiculous contract they gave to Suh), it gives me more reason to believe Spence is in play for the Jags at 5, as he has all the traits of a truly dominant edge rusher.  I think we'll shore up the secondary and interior part of our D-line in free agency by aggressively pursuing the likes of Eric Berry, TaShaun Gibson, Malik Jackson, Trumaine Johnson, Jaonoris Jenkis etc..., while adding edge rush and linebacker speed in the draft. March can't get here fast enough!

If Dave strikes out on edge rushers in the FA then I could see this being a possibility.

Well see that's the thing, I don't know if he'll have a chance of striking out, I don't expect Vernon or Miller to hit FA. I think those two are the only edge rushers Dave would be willing to break the bank on.
That's the only thing holding him back from being a top 5 pick. High risk high reward

Yep. I'm all for it if the Jags believe his problems are behind him. Could be very good right away.
I'd like the Noah Spence pick at 5 if we don't manage to address the pass rusher situation properly during FA.

If on the other hand we manage to get Vernon (& possibly Williams or someone else), then Myles Jack would be my pick.

I say we take Spence even if we do address pass rush in free agency. I want our defensive line to be filthy from top to bottom of the depth chart. It will make everybody that much better.

Imagine Telvin Smith behind a great front 4?
As mentioned, if DC can't hit on a pass rusher in free agency, and if Bosa is gone, it would not surprise me to see him go with Spence.  The kid is a gifted pass rusher.  Take him as long as you get comfortable that he's not another Blackmon, Manziel, or Hardy in the making.

In case you haven't watched....

During the clip, absolutely destroys Donovan Smith (Bucs starting LT) off the edge.
I'm on the Spence bandwagon. But we better do a deep dive into his background. Hire a PI and follow him around for the next couple of months and lets see if his past is really behind him or if it's just a facade to get drafted i.e Blackmon.

Yes. Learn everything about him. What music he listens to, who his friends are, his hobbies, etc. Get this right!
Spence is way better than Bosa. But since Caldwell never pick who I want and it seems like he doesn't know what bend is I guess we will pick Bosa.

Some people said those New York Giants teams had too many pass rushers and they showed that there's really no such thing. And we just finished watching another example of the impact an elite defensive line can have. He'd be in play on my draft board but it would be an even bigger coup if we somehow managed to trade back to the 7-13 range and still snag him.
As for him being as talented as Miller coming out of TAMU. He is not as fast as Miller (Miller ran a 4.53 Spence will probably run something like a 4.68) and Miller has longer arms (33.5'' vs. Spence's 31'').

Hopefully we get lucky and Bosa falls to us

Spence > Bosa and it's not even close tbh. Unless you care more about Bosa being a slightly better run stopper than Spence being a million light years more capable pass rusher in the league.

So we've moved off Ramsey's jock to Spence's have we?

So if Miller is all-world, what's Spence's floor and ceiling?

lol, its like clockwork

I think Spence is like Tamba Hali or Terrell Suggs. I expect him to test better than them at the combine. I'd say his floor is Tamba Hali right now. Ceiling, Von Miller. That doesn't mean he will have the same production his rookie year. But his ability to get around the edge and use his hands is already that level.
