I feel like playoffs should be the goal so I voted yes.
On the other hand, if for some reason they didn't make the playoffs for some reason, but the team is dramatically better and more consistent, it would be silly to fire him at that point. Major improvement has to happen though. Major.

Eh, if you win 10 games but miss the playoffs can't hate on you for that.
If Bortles goes down for more than 1 or 2 games and we go 8-8, still would have to give Gussy poo the nod.
But I think it'll be very clear, early, next season where the team is, where it's really headed, and where Gus is going to be.
Start 1-4 in the first Q of the season and your Gus is cooked.

If he don't win more than 8 games, he's toast.

I think with 9 wins, Gus stays. With less than 9 wins, Gus goes. Not going to be easy for him at all next year either with our schedule. But if our defense makes some leaps, and Bortles takes two more steps forward, it could happen.

Khan said in his press conference when he notified everyone Bradley was coming back that next year we needed to be vastly improved from where we currently are (paraphrasing) and "Gus understands this." That right there is code for Bradley needs to have this team in position for playoffs or he's not getting an extension.

He just has to go 8-8 and he's good to stay.

Quote:Next year you're just looking for the offensive line, running game, and overall defense to show substantial improvement and for the passing game to at least hold steady. You're looking for Bradley to have better gameplans. It's not really about wins for me. For instance, if the defense and run games improve, but Bortles gets injured for a lot of the year (God forbid) I wouldn't expect to see more than about 6 wins but I'd still want to keep the coach. Not to be mean but you're a loser if you really believe it's not about wins.
It has been and always will be about wins. No matter what. In any season for any NFL team forever.

If Gus is 8-8 next year he should be fired.
Because that means a different HC would have likely had the team at 10-6 or 11-5 and in the playoffs.

Kind of like when we went 5-11 this past season.

Quote:2016 is a contract year for Gus Bradley. According to Caldwell, Bradley gets a pass for the first two seasons he was the coach here in Jacksonville. Khan has been patient and let the whole contract playoff. What are the expectations? The Team has had it's fill of ice cream cake but it's time to start winning.. Does a 6-10 or 7-9 record get him an extension?
If he doesnt get above .500 AND a playoff birth, hes james fried chicken. Who here believes this is even possible? The only hope is Bortles and the Allens. Our D is on a HS level, so they cant be relied on.

I think saying playoffs or bust is actually setting the bar too low. It should be shirts & caps or bust, nothing less should be tolerated. We as a fan base have been asked to be patient and that things are getting better, and this season was definitely more enjoyable but there is no reason why we should not have full expectations of winning our division and be satisfied with anything less.

Quote:I don't see gus making it through the entire season. His track record of preparing this team is obvious. He'll start 0-4 or 1-5, then be fired. Olsen will be interim. Then 2017 all new staff again.
This is what I've been saying.

There are quite a few of us who have been saying this also.
There are also those select few who bow up and criticize you for having this opinion, they know who they are.
We won't know which side is right until about halfway through next season, but I sure know which side I would be betting on.
If he does get off to his usual awful start and NOT get let go, then it will only be because Khan has decided to give him the entire 2016 season and not less then that.

Yep, i see this happening.

C'mon, we already know.

Nah, it's cool, coaches have zero impact on the game, so going 6-10 should rightfully be enough to keep Gus.

New day. Same schtuff.
