Quote:Sure I'm hoping for a home run hire. But if it's an epic fail, I can't be the only one that doesn't really care. If Gus screws this up and they have, yet another, losing season he's gone. Then we get a new HC. So, if you're patient, it's a win win. Either it works out or we get a new coach.

Yep. Just find it odd Gus would hire a jobber like this before electing to call the defense himself.

I know there hasn't been a hire yet, but it is strange.

Yeah, after reading up on him I'm unsure of this guy. Like others have stated, it's just an interview. I wouldn't mind Gus calling the plays. Same principle applies. He either sinks or swims. I'm pulling for him but if he can't get it done he needs to be gone. Enough excuses. Next year they win or find someone else who will. Having said that, I will be glued to this board until someone has been hired.

Didn't Tom Coughlin interview coaches for the OC job before deciding to call the plays? He ended up not hiring an OC.

Not sure. Don't care. Just think if someone is going down with the ship, they want to be the one driving the boat and not some failure named Billy.

The guy named Billy won 10 games two consecutive seasons. Chip Kelly ruined it for him.

I may have misread it, but I understand he's only considering calling the plays.  I didn't get the impression this was a promise of any kind.
Wasn't Babich a LB coach, and Billy Davis was a LB coach.  Hmm does Gus Bradley feel that the LB coach makes the best DC because he was once a LB coach?

Does it really matter what position group he used to coach? JDR was a linebacker, but did not base his DC hires on that.

FWIW Mike Smith, AKA the best D coordinator in Jags history, was the LB coach for the Ravens when JDR hired him as his defensive coordinator.

It doesn't really matter, the teams Defensive Captain Poz is a MLB so maybe its the best position coach to promote.   I wonder why not his good and loyal DL coach friend, but I guess he needs him where he is more than promoting him?

MLB is the defensive position usually responsible for calling plays before the snap. They are sometimes called "the quarterback of the defense." So it is natural Poz would be named the team's defensive captain.

That said, being a team captain does not translate to being a good DC. Other factors are involved and it is not guaranteed just being a former linebacker makes someone a better coordinator.

...and does planning on letting Poz help with the playbook factor in?

Give him credit, he may be doing some experimenting of his own in evolving his scheme, particularly re: linebacking.  When your core is Poz and Telvin, why not push the envelope with something new?  After last season, why not??
Wasn't JDR a former LB coach as well as a former LB?

Yes, and ended up being a pretty good coach after all.
Quote:TMD absolutely hates this. I would paste his Twitter post but would get banned. Haha.
I was unsure (on the fence) about this. Now, I'm sold. If TMD thinks it's a terrible move, it's bound to be an excellent one. I'm on board!

*On board with bringing Vinny Curry along with him. Make it happen, Yup!
TMD was right about both original coordinators being trash.

TMD was right about a lot of things that were very controversial at the time & caused some posters to attack him.  He didn't respond well, and I think that is why he was banned (in the past)... but I didn't follow the entire drama.

Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then. I can count on two hands how many times he's been right but I'd be here all day naming the times he's been wrong.

Pretty much.  You "predict" the worst and it ends up happening is just sad.  Not insightful.  Opposite is also true, BTW.  There's no talent i calling tails every single time.
The difference is the eagles have mch more defensive talent than the jags.. Cox Alone make that defensive line incredibly talented
