Quote:Sign Henne. If you are on your backup for anything more than a game or 2 your season is over.

Henne can play well enough to not lose a game. He is a great backup. I hope we can keep him around.

Oh and I love his mustaches. They should make a poster of them.

He's terrible. Let him test the market, don't pay the 3.5+ million per year he's asked for in the past. If someone else is willing to sink that kind of money into him then let them.

Bring in someone else for the minimum that can throw a bunch of tipped passes and [BLEEP] the bed whenever they're put in position of having to complete a pass at a crucial point of a game if you feel like having a vet is important. Then bring in a rookie, UDFA with good a good mental grasp for football preferably, to be groomed as the real backup. He'll likely not have what it takes to take on Bortles, but if he has to come in for a game or two and shows good command of the game because he's smart the Jaguars might be able to flip him on some unsuspecting team for a high pick.
If we are to believe that Blake can withstand the rigors of a full season healthy for the next couple seasons, which is always an if, than the backup is just that, a backup.

What do you want in a backup if he likely won't ever play?

Team player, not likely to let ego get in the way of what's best for the team? Things like that.

That is where Henne excels. He is the perfect backup in that sense. As far as what he gets paid, it's not really our business. The market will always set those numbers. A good GM won't deviate from the market.

Henne loves it here. He is comfortable in his role, and does it well without making waves. The backup QB is important to the rest of the team in terms of practice and preparation, which are some of Henne's strong points. He does that well. He is a bona fide supporter of Blake, and the two have a good working relationship.

Basically what I'm saying here is if it ain't broke, why try to fix it?

This argument is hilarious. It's the exact opposite argument that you think it is. Essentially you're saying since Bortles won't miss any time it's okay to overpay someone to be Bortles' buddy.

By your logic the team shouldn't have a backup QB at all, because why would you need to pay someone to be someone's friend? Bortles can hang out with Henne in the off time and the team can save 3.5 million a year and put it toward signing players that will matter.

Show me where I said overpay. My logic is based upon what the job demands typically are on a backup QB.

Before you criticize, be sure to actually read and comprehend what has been said so you don't look foolish with your response. I say this so you can learn and better communicate with your fellow fans.

Nobody will think less of you, but people will certainly think more of you if you understand what you have read and at least provide a coherent response.

This has been a public service announcement from Dakota, inc.
"Best backup in the league"
How about they let Chad Henne go in Free Agency, and sign Puppy-Monkey-Baby as a backup.. .he'll probably play better just saying...

I've read all these comments so I'll add mine. Henne's contract will be reworked to much less money, he stays with us for the chemistry with Blake and the offensive personnel. We also look to draft a project QB most likely around the 4th round or later... we don't need a Qb that can develop into the starter but can manage a game and learn behind Henne and our young super star Blake Bortles. This is the only way to go and 100% what the jags do this off season and draft.

As other's have mentioned there isn't anyone else that will come in for the right money, right experience, and the ability to mentor a freshman QB from the draft, and know 100% they have no shot at the starting job. Its Henne for another 2 years and a late round QB this year to take Henne's spot.

And with Henne's character, He would be overwhelmingly happy with this situation while most other guys available would not be.

Risks have to be taken by every team and i know Henne isn't very reliable to carry a game himself. But again with a stout defense and a much improved running game Henne can "manage" our football team for 60 minutes.. We may not win that game.. But he won't be 100% why we lost either.

Henne people. Dont fool yourself

Like that Raiders game where Gabbert had it in the bag before getting hurt only for Henne to come in and totally blow it.

The cognitive dissonance of the very post you replied to is crazy. First he says we couldn't win with a backup anyway, and then in the next breath he talks about Henne being a great backup and winning games.

Like I said, if the Jaguars can't win with a backup anyway then why spend millions on a guy with the justification being "Blake likes him"?
The backup on this particular team is one Joeckel whiff away from seeing the field. And we want that guy to be Chad friggin Henne!?!?! We already know the guy sucks. I'd rather bring back gabbert than see henne take the field for a single play.
No
There's better available, cheaper.

Sign Henne for insurance for now, but don't guarantee anything. Cut him when a better alternative rears up before August.

One has EVERY season he's been here, we've just missed it. Hopefully we don't miss it this time.

Jaguars close to re-signing backup QB Chad Henne, team source says. Has worked well with Blake Bortles, so that duo will remain intact.

Ryan O chiming in on the deal:

Henne signed two-year, $8 million deal in 2014 before market opened, looks like same term/money in 2016 before market opens. #Jaguars

Thanks for what?
Preseason champs!

Done deal.
Not a surprise at all.

I don't agree with that signing. A 100% raise over his previous 2 year $4 million contract after not taking a snap in 2015?
