Is it possible to even bring someone in (well I mean would anyone actually want the job)?  Gus is likely gone after next season barring a miracle, he may as well take over the defense, sink or swim with his scheme.

Someone who can possibly step in as interim HC week 6. Schwartz?

The ST unit had some bad mistakes last year (and many were surprised that he lasted the off-season). Don't forget the bad miscommunication on the failed 4th down punt this season. Critical mistake putting Marshall out there also, who made some bad situational decisions on fielding kick/punts.

 

As for Kirby, while the OL was less than stellar and played a factor in the struggles...there were faaaar too many questionable decisions this season with the RB rotations: Toby suddenly getting a crucial 3rd down run after not getting a single carry all game, Yeldon no carries at the goal line, Denard getting carries at the goal line over TJ, Grant being put in (like Toby) at a crucial point.

 

Don't forget Kirby is the RB coach in Oakland while that offense kept trotting out MJD and McFadden over Murray.

No but was strongly considered by Pete Carrol to replace Gus Bradley as Seahawks DC. I personally would prefer somebody

with play calling experience.I do like Todd Wash though!

 Even at a lower level of college competition,  the Defensive Coordinator experience would be helpful on the NFL level.

 

 Having said this though,  it seems like most successful NFL Defensive Coordinators are former DB or LB Coaches.   Rod Marinelli is an exception.

Problem is right now, he has or will interview with Miami for their HC spot.  If it takes a while for Miami to make their decision, it may take a while for him to decide to come.  We can't wait too long to name the coordinator if we don't hire from within.

If it turns out as well as the Greg Olson addition on the other side of the ball,  chances are you and most Jags fans will be happy with the results.

This is the NFL.  Players have been taught basic technique their whole career. If they dont use it now, they never will.

To what extent are those the decisions of the head coach or offensive coordinator? We've already seen examples of this coaching staff being stubborn. I don't want to place some blame on Kirby if Olsen or Gus wanted those players on the field in those situations.

So if we were ranked 31st in defense AND we follow last years pattern, does that mean we hire the Saints DC?  Right?
