Quote:I sure hope not. I want someone experienced to run this defense. Keep an eye on Raheem Morris.

I'm kind of hoping they bring in new blood too, but I'm not so sure.
Quote:Gus needs to be surrounded with as many guys with NFL coaching experience as possible just like they did on the offensive side of the ball. Go hire Raheem Morris and Monte Kiffen. Raheem Morris, Monte Kiffen, Todd Walsh, Doug Marrone, Greg Olsen, and Nathaniel Hackett around Gus should be a good enough coaching staff... Right?

That's what DelRio did.
Quote:That's what DelRio did.

As much as Del Rio chose to throw guys under the bus towards the end, he was never the biggest problem.

Shack's #1s, and Gene's everything sunk the roster and thus his future.  He's done well (again) elsewhere.

I honestly don't know what Gus can be, with a roster still so thin on talent at critical positions.

Yes, yes and yes. Del Rio is obviously a capable coach and much as he appeared mediocre with us, he really was hamstrung by a lot of terrible personnel decisions. He made do.
Quote:Ryan O Halloran suspects Gus's mentor Montee Kiffin could be brought in in some capacity as well, to try and get the ship righted.
great move
Glad we did something at least.

Quote:A late Christmas present. Really what else could they do? face 39,000 seats all next season?

You never want to see anyone get fired, but it is a business based on results.  You can't be the leagues worst against the pass for 3 years in the NFL and expect to keep your job.  Sure the team was okay against the run, mainly because most teams didnt need to run against the jaguars (unless to kill the clock after they had already won the game by passing all over them).
I'm not sure who this person is, but came across this post on Big Cat Country back in 2013. Sad to reflect on now...

"Awful is an understatement describing Babich

Babich is dreadful. He took over the number one defense in the league from Ron Rivera, a Defense chick full of pro bowlers like Urlacher, Briggs, Charles Tillman and great players like Daniel Manning, Chris Harris and Nathan Vasher among others and completely ruined the unit. He was a horrible playcaller and would never make in game adjustments when his defense would be getting shredded by average QB’s. His defense could not get any pressure on the QB and he’d keep calling for Zone defense with a simple four man rush even thought the bears had some of the best man to man corners and pash rushing linebackers in the league. He would not adjust his defense to fit his personell and Lovie finally mercifully ripped play calling duties away from him and demoted him. He’d be fine as a linebackers coach but we are in deep [BLEEP] if he’s given any authority over the defense or playcalling responsibilities from Bradley. For our sake lets hope he’s just a glorified linebackers coach w a big title and Bradley’s gonna run the d

Possible DCs?

a.)  Carolina Steve Wilks, Ast HC/ Defensive Backs

b.)  Chiefs Emmitt Thomas, Defensive Backs coach

c.)  Notre Dame Brian Kelly, HC College former Linebacker

d.)  49ers Tim Lewis, Defensive Back Coach - Was DB coach in Seattle 2009 coached under Eric Mangini whom coached under Bill Parcells.

e.)  UVA Al Groh, former Patriots DC team won AFC Championship in 1996.

Quote:Seems to me that Gus's guys have sucked (Babich and Fisch) while Caldwells guys (Olsen, Marrone Hackett) seem to be doing quite well.

Bradley was given his choice of coordinators when he first got here but once they sucked, Caldwell gets to jump in.

What in the world makes you think those are Caldwell's guys, and not Gus's? Gus personally interviewed all three for the job and talked about what he liked in them and why he decided to bring them in. They're all Gus's guys.

Raheem Morris is a very intriguing option who very well might should be able to meld minds with Gus regarding our scheme.

This is the time of the year where the experts come out! Lol ... Very entertaining thread. Sticking to the topic, im glad Babich is gone, but not glad Gus finally Deciding to get more involved next year, i mean what the hell were you doing these last couple years? Anyway i look forward to seeing who we bring in as our next d coordinator. And some of yall should let the smoke clear before you make outrageous predictions on whose the next guy. Just chill.
Quote:This sounds good in theory...but I wonder if Gus can handle it.

Gus will get a lot of new players in the offseason, including Marks, Fowler, some high draft picks, and some free agents.   The improvement with Gus taking over the defensive play calling will make Gus look like a genius.
When did we start looking at OCs last year?
Quote:When did we start looking at OCs last year?
We had Marrone and Olson in place by the 21st of January last year. Fisch was fired on the 31st of December so it took around 3 weeks to get them.
We all knew this move was coming. Bradley has his back against the wall now. Well, more like feet closer to the edge. If he fails this year he may never get another shot at head coaching at this level. Curious to see what direction he goes in though. Does he bring in yet another friend or old colleague from the past that knows his style of defense? Or does he attempt to gut it scheme wise knowing he may not have enough time with Caldwell now to continue the way it's been going the last three years. More importantly, does he take over the play calling?

That is chilling...exactly what happened.

It is, except for the part about the defense being 'chick' full of probowlers

Youre crazy if you think Brian Kelly takes anything but a head coaching job. Certainly not an assistant job for one of the least prestigious NFL teams.
