Quote:2nd round pick on a guy who may never play football again? Pass
Exactly. Even if he looked like he'd recover okay, he'll miss the whole 2017 season, which I think would be crazy drafting a guy that high that won't play next year. Wit him having nerve damage, we'd be crazy to draft him unless it was a late day 3 pick.

May never play again? I didn't know it was that bad, though it was just for next year. Still I would use a 4th or 5th on him.

He has nerve damage in his knee like Lattimore did. He might not ever get the nerves back.
I would spend a 4th rounder on Jaylon Smith
There was a video on Twitter of him working out recently. He looked good.

I very likely would as well. IMO, at some point in the 3rd Round, the risk/ reward with Jaylon Smith will become favorable.

Especially to a team with extra picks via trades or being awarded compensatory picks.

Absolutely. Another factor is a G.M. that has job security would likely be much more comfortable in drafting Jaylon Smith than a G.M. who is on the hotseat like Giants G.M. Jerry Reese.
W/o knowing who will be available in a given spot, it's difficult to say which player would be the best option. Yet, if Jaylon Smith regains the vast majority of his pre-knee skills, it's hard to imagine a player with more upside, w/o significant character risks, being available in the 3rd Round or later.
He's untouchable at the moment. He's dealing with a foot-drop problem and it hasn't improved one iota since the combine.
Wasn't a fan before the injury, definitely not a fan now.

Lol well he was an absolute animal. Would have been top 5 pick.

Recent article I read said that he's wearing some kind of device to allow him to lift his foot (or something to that effect) and that he can't do it without it. Sounds like the ACL repairs are holding up (as can be seen from the vines), but the nerve (which is the biggest question mark) has yet to heal. He'll likely miss 2016, and perhaps be back in 2017. How he performs after that, and moving forward, who knows.
I think mid to late 4th is my threshold for us taking a chance on him.

I just didn't really see what was so special about him. I mean he moves really well, very good blitzer and his coverage is good but he misses and falls off tackles a lot and gets swallowed up by blockers a lot. I just didn't really see which part of his game was so special to be a top 10 pick.

I thought it looked ok at first too, at least progress...but the twitter doctors started tweeting about how bad it actually looked (his foot wasn't raising or flexing at all) and then the video was apparently taken down because it was having the opposite effects of Myles Jack's workout videos.
I had knee surgery last year and suffered nerve damage. The nerve was severed during surgery to repair my knee. I am 42 years old, and after 5 months, I am starting to get feeling back. I really hope the guys career isn't over, and if I can give any input, I'd say grab him with a mid round pick and hope for a steal.
I think he's going to all into the 5th or 6th; unless a team that doesn't need all picks to hit pulls the plug early. After lattimore, most teams are gonna be extremely cautious. I'd love to grab him on day 3!
Per Rotoworld:
Quote:Jaylon Smith - LB - Player
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Notre Dame LB Jaylon Smith (knee) is expected to be selected before the end of the third round.
Smith has been completely removed from some teams' draft boards due to a torn ACL and LCL in his knee that is expected to force him to miss the entire 2016 season. Smith is also dealing with drop-foot, suggesting there's nerve damage. It's going to take a team with a talented, deep roster and one preferably with around double-digit selections to take a flier on him. The Browns and 49ers each have a league-high 12 picks, but both have bottom-five NFL rosters.
Too rich for me.
"With the 5th pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars, select, Jaylon Smith, Linebacker, Notre Dame"
Jaws drop, silence.
Chhhhhammpppiioonnnshhiiiiipppp
Yea, I'm not a fan of taking him that high (for us, but if he does, I'm happy for him!). I would love to snag him up in the 5th or 6th. If he pans out, we could have a stout LB core for years to come!!
GO JAGS!!
