The best ability is availability

Quote:I read this thread and I understand the back and forth between the Marquis Lee supporters and the detractors of Lee.

But can I just mention one thing:  How fast/quick one is does not make one a superior athlete from another player that may not be as fast or quick.

Also...  How quickly one accelerates does not make one a better athlete from someone that doesn't accelerate as quick.

I think Lee may be the most "talented" receiver in terms of overall speed.  I'll concede his all around speed to any one that wants to argue that point.

I'm a child of the 80's so I remember Chicago's Willie Gault.  That dude was a burner.  He was a world class runner.  He actually competed in Olympic trials in terms of running.  100 yard dash.  200 yard dash.  400 yard dash.  Will Gualt was world class.

The 85 bears used Willie to stretch the D and used him on special teams.  There were several games I remember Gault burned the CB on a fly route.  The dude was a burner.  But he wasn't an "athlete" in terms of what it means to play football.

Yeah, being very fast or speedy is important in football.  But to be an "Athlete" means you have world class hand/eye reflex.  It means you have world class toughness.  It means you understand mental fortitude.  It means you are a bit crazier than normal humans--- You will go further than other will physically.

Lee is fast.  He's quick.  He's able to accelerate beyond most players.  He's a sprinter.

But just because one has a talent in terms of speed does not make him a better "Athlete" from someone that may be slower but has more brains, heart, and fortitude to plow through pain...

Lee isn't the best athlete on this team.  He's not even in the top 5 "Most Athletic Jaguars".  What Lee will hopefully be is the fastest Jaguar.  And that is a great thing, we need a Willie Gault.  But just because someone is fast doesn't make them a better athlete than someone like Poz, or DRob, or Yeldon, or Telvin, or Hurns, or heck anyone that actually plays football.  Lee is a runner.

Runner's aren't athletes.  They're just runners.

Lee is considered a great athlete because of what he did in college after the catch with the ball in his hands. He was great at outrunning coverage. But in terms of raw speed, he only ran like a 4.5 at the combine (Marshall, Telvin Smith, Rashad Greene and Yeldon ran like a 4.53 followed by the Allen brothers, McCray and Sample around 4.56).
That was said to be a shockingly slow time for him, and I get that, but there's no way he's the fastest.

There are several Jaguars faster than that. If you're talking about the fastest Jaguars you first have to look at DRob and Grant, and then you're looking at the Jaguars CBs. House, for instance, ran something like a 4.43 at the combine and a 4.37 at his Pro Day (WR Arrelious Benn did the same). Gratz ran a 4.47. Colvin is one of the fastest. He didn't run at the combine because he was hurt, but rumor was he could have run a 4.32 if healthy. DRob and Grant are the only others I know of to be that fast. I highly doubt Lee could run anywhere near a 4.3 on his best day. DRob ran the 40 in 4.32, and Grant ran the 40 at his Pro Day around 4.27.

To be clear - I can only guess who the most "athletic" player on the roster is, and I never said it was Lee. His teammates did. Which is what I thought the thread was about.
This thread took a weird direction.

And someone let Carl Lewis know that runners aren't athletes.
He really exploded when he caught the ball across the field. He has speed and you can tell he is stronger than he looks. When you put him on the field with all the other talent we have it is nothing but mismatches everywhere. The offense we saw just this past weekend is an offense that showed progression finally and we hope to see until the end. Finally the team played as a whole. Young talent that is playing with confidents. I would love to see us win the division and make the playoffs with this momentum but lets just continue against ATL.

I'd say it is Jason Myers. How he stays on the team after missing a handful of extra points is pretty amazing.
ok.... that made me laugh...

Quote:Uhm...he corralled that ball with his two hands and his chest?
You obviously don't know what a body catch is.
