Bortles can't be and isn't a game manager. He will never be an Alex Smith type dink and dunk the football and try not to make mistakes player. Bortles is a down field, aggressive passer. What really needs to happen and what they are setting up is that the team DOES do that control the LOS and TOP with defense and the run game, but rather than having Bortles just try not to mess us, the run will be used to set up Bortles deep passes. Bortles should lead the league again in downfield pass attempts but the efficiency should be better than 2015. If he can do that and limit the TOs to 13, then we'll be fine. If Bortles didn't turn the ball over so much he would not be as much of a back breaker to this team even with inconsistant accuracy. Bortles will never be a low turnover player, but if he could limit them while maximizing the efficiency of his downfield passing then he would be a plus to this team.
Quote:How many of you would take Eli over Bortles? Look at the numbers, they're the same guy. Eli's 10th year in the league he threw 27!!! INTs.
But he was able to win 2 super bowls with a good coach who now is running out front office. Gus was a trainwreck on the development of everybody. Bortles deserves the BOTD for one more season.
Yes, let's build like the Giants. 4th round Brandon Jacobs and 7th round Ahmad Bradshaw. Drafting Kiwanuka and JPP in the 1st round despite already having a loaded DL.
That's how you can win a SB with a streaky up and down QB. Get a lightning in the bottle stretch from him, a relentless pass rush, and of course some insane Tyree/Manningham luck.
I would love to see what another qb not on our roster could do with our receivers.
Cause 2015 AR15 and Hurns made something out of nothing.
But only way to prove that. Having another capable qb to throw to them.
Quote:You should watch them again. Also the Raiders game.
I don't have recordings of the games. Like I said, if you know of a reputable website with breakdowns of his litany of dropped interceptions I'd look at it, but from what I recall most of his passes that hit defenders hands got intercepted.

Don't forget the nonexistent running game to back that QB up.
Not many QBs are Brady or Brees, who throw it 60 times a game and only have 10 rushing attempts.

Disagree they were way more productive.
I mean it! Sign Osweiller! 1 Year prove it deal. He can push Bortles and if Bortles is awful we can at least try with him. We know exactly what Henne is. Osweiller had 1 good season, 1 bad.

If they did and osweiler played better. Which I highly doubt. Be time to cut ties.

Osweiler couldn't push Henne through a wet paper bag. Dude is trash. He didn't have "one good season" he had like 8 not terrible games in Denver and then was terrible in Houston.

You can watch them online. How many near interceptions do you think he had?

Our rushing was putrid last year and I will give you the stats for our top 3 rushers last year.
TJ Yeldon - 130 att, 465 yds, 3.6 avg, 1 TD, 2 Fum
Chris Ivory - 117 att, 439 yds, 3.8 avg, 3 TD, 5 Fum
Blake Bortles - 58 att, 359 yds, 6.2 avg, 3 TD, 2 Fum
So with that out of the way, lets play this game to exhibit why our rushing SUCKED.
Bortles (QB) basically amassed 78% of TJ Yeldon's rushing yards on only 45% of his total carries and 3x the TDs (and same amount as Ivory).
We have problems when our main rushing attack (via RBs and O-line) amass these stats - and they in NO WAY help a QB out in the passing game because a defense will just sit on routes and pin their ears back to get to the QB with ZERO threat of a rushing game.
Cam Newton, Eli Manning, and Andrew Luck career average are 58% completion just like Blake but he's the only QB that isn't pinpoint accurate right?

Jesus no, why would you think hes the only inaccurate QB?

No y'all think that not me but I just bought three of the people who isn't pinpoint accurate either.

And can you imagine trying to turn them into game managers either? Of course not. None of them, including Bortles, are even close to that profile of QB.

Great post. Everyone wants to focus on the QB play without considering all of the other factors. As this post clearly shows the running game was pathetic and has been for years, mostly due to a very weak OL.. The freakin' QB amassed almost as many rushing yards as the 2 primary backs. We had the worst head coach of all time and two bottom feeder OCs. We need to see what the QB can do with a real head coach, a new play scheme and a running game that doesn't put the offense in 3 and 8 all day. Really disappointed we didn't get a OG today. Need to take Fournette or Cook at #4 and at least 2 OL in the draft.
Quote:Game managers don't throw 35 TDs. Ever.
He's a young QB that needs a strong hand on the till and a hard foot on his rear keeping him moving in the right direction.
With the right coach he will likely succeed.
Didn't Ryan Fitzpatrick throw for 30+ that year as well?
Quote:No y'all think that not me but I just bought three of the people who isn't pinpoint accurate either.
The threads about Bortles being a game manager. What myself and others have said is that he makes too many turnovers, bad decisions and is too inaccurate to be a game manager. Wouldn't you agree?
Quote:It's gotten to the point where we hope they can turn Blake into Alex Smith or Andy Dalton...that's when you know it's over.
Alex Smith has had an average rating over 90 the past 5 years. I would be happy with that. Football is a team sport. He can't take all the blame for not winning playoff games.

What does it matter? Do you think Ryan Fitzpatrick is a game manager? From what I can recall his biggest problem has been trying to make throws he should be trying to make.
