The implosion of his campaign continues...

http://www.politico.com/story/2015/11/be...int-215598

Quote:
Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

The academy has occupied a central place in Carson’s tale for years. According to a story told in Carson’s book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy.

West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

“In 1969, those who would have completed the entire process would have received their acceptance letters from the Army Adjutant General,” said Theresa Brinkerhoff, a spokeswoman for the academy. She said West Point has no records that indicate Carson even began the application process. “If he chose to pursue (the application process) then we would have records indicating such,” she said.

When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.

I wouldn't say his campaign is imploding and if this is the worst they can dig up the guy (not saying it is) then I'm not too worried.

He fibbed. His campaign owned up to it.
Pyramids are grain silos also.

He is running for president. It is a big deal.

And lets not pretend like he hadn't had a terrible week before this story broke.

That depends who you are. There are way to many people that won't know or care.

I don't know.

From what I've seen, and I'll admit I haven't been keeping up on it the best, he's still doing fine in most polls.

I am interested in seeing how it impacts him in the polls. Leading up to this week, he was rising and had passed Trump in national polling.

Maybe it doesn't. I assume it will. I am also wondering how this is brought up at the next debate.

I am interested to see that as well. I'm a Carson fan, I've made that known here. This story could lead to bigger things being revealed about his past. It will be interesting to see what comes out if he remains a "threat" at the top of the polls.

Those debates are tough for me to watch.
So, to recap:

Earth is 4,400 years old.

Pyramids are grain silos.

Answer to immigration problems is to bomb Arizona.

Signers of the Declaration of Independence had no political experience.

If Jews had guns, there'd have been no Holocaust.

Being Islamic is a disqualifier for being President.

His Presidential campaign is a modern D-Day.

Prison terms make people gay.

Obamacare is a greater national tragedy than 9/11.

Democrats are Nazis.

And now...he lied about being offered a full scholarship to West Point.

Blankety-blanking blank, Republicans. Run a sensible candidate and you'll win. Run Trump, Carson or Cruz and we'll just get another mental breakdown from Karl Rove on live TV when the Democratic candidate wins.

He never said he attended. He never said he applied. He never said he went through the process of seeking sponsors and so forth. He said that at the conversation with westmoreland the offer was extended.

The retraction was two fold. 1.) there was a discrepancy as to when the meeting took place but it did happen. 2.) there are no SCHOLARSHIPS to west point. All costs are inherently paid. There have been tons of grads calling in explaining that the confusion over wording is common for those only anicdotally familiar with the application process as a 17 year old carson would have been.

At the time given the increased demand for black officers that general westmorland WOULDNT have talked up west point is asinine given his high grades and standing in jrotc in detroit.

It is a nicely worded article though.

Here is an interview he conducted this morning on CNN. I was going to start a thread about but decided to add it here instead. My initial response to what I saw this morning (I came in about 10 minutes late) was what if the media vetted Obama 8 years ago the same as they are vetting Carson now? Two thoughts came to mind, the first is they would have been labeled racist, the second was Obama would not have been elected.

As for the original post, this is not good if true.

If he wins the GOP primary, Hillary Clinton and the media will have a field day. I can't imagine him getting a single independent or moderate voter in the nationals.

You mean the woman under federal investogation?

Yes, the untouchable one who wears the media like armor plating.
Problem is, Carson is running largely on his personal story. The more his autobiography comes into question, the less reason people have for voting for him. After all, there are a thousand people who can run as a conservative republican, who actually know the issues involved a lot better than Ben Carson does. So if he's fabricated parts of his autobiography, there goes any reason to support him.

Pretty sleazy Politico.

My problem is, politically I am to the right of the Democrats and to the left of the Republicans. I like the Republicans' sense of fiscal responsibility. I am with the Democrats on the social issues and the environment. My vote is up for grabs right now. If it comes down to a choice between a Republican social conservative, and a Democratic socialist, who promises lots of free stuff for everyone, I am stuck.

I don't know what's worse, pointless and unfounded charges of racism, or accusations that reasonable actions will result in pointless and unfounded charges of racism.

Pretty sleazy Politico.

That's interesting.

However, in that article, it is pointed out that Carson had this on his Facebook page in August:

"I was the highest student ROTC member in Detroit and was thrilled to get an offer from West Point. But I knew medicine is what I wanted to do. So I applied to only one school. (it was all the money I had). I applied to Yale and thank God they accepted me. I often wonder what might have happened had they said no."

He says he got an offer from West Point. Which is not true.

But it appears the Carson campaign has a legitimate beef with the way Politico headlined the story.
He was referring to the aforementioned verbal conversation with the general not a formal offer of appointment.
