His production the last two years surprised me a little bit. I thought he was already on the decline and his whole "locker room cancer" rep worried me.
But he kind of proved me wrong I guess.
I'd rather sign a young guy, but he could help in the short term I suppose.
I'd still draft one in the 4th or 5th. Good TE class this year.
I'd prefer the vet because this team needs more veteran presence. Coming off of a super bowl victory is also a plus. You can't just constantly sign/draft young inexperienced guys and never bring in veterans and expect to win. It needs to be an equal mix of both.
Id like Ryan Griffin over Martellus. MB will want a big contract.
He can block and catch so thats good
I wouldn't be mad about it.
I kinda would like to draft Jake Butt and roll with him plus our current 3.
A huge upgrade over Thomas for what we need in our TE. Especially when it comes to blocking

It's only speculation, etc., etc., but if Bennett is signed we'll really know that everyone in the front office is working on the theory that the Jags better win soon. Like this year.
Was he a Giant when Coughlin was there ?

yes

Yes - and I think he was there only one year. Does that mean Coughlin wasn't big on him, or was it just more money available elsewhere?

After his weight ballooned to 295 pounds in the off season, when asked about his conditioning during an interview, he responded: "I'm stronger than I've ever been, I'm faster than I've ever been. I could run all day. I'm kind of like a black unicorn out there". In the regular season, he got his weight under control and recorded 55 receptions for 626 yards and five touchdowns, while playing through different injuries.

The whole locker room cancer deal.
Jake Butt is not going to contribute this year coming off of the ACL. This team desperately needs more veteran leadership from proven winners. I just don't get how some of you constantly just want to bring in young guys. I'm tired of losing. Let's bring in some proven guys that can make a difference now, not hypothetically 3-4 years from now.
I hope this doesn't hinder us from drafting a TE in one of the deepest TE groups in the last half decade.

With Gus I would be worried. I have more faith in this staff, he did good in NE

Well draft him. IR him. Sign Bennett. Everyone wins.
