I'm a huge fan of Bill O'Brien, he was a well respected offensive coordinator in New England, turned around a Penn State program that was going through an horrendous situation. He got the most out of Christian Hackenberg who's been awful ever since Bill left, he coached Allen Robinson at Penn State and reportedly wanted to select Blake Bortles with the first overall pick, but the Texans management and ownership wanted Jadeveon Clowney.

I think Bill (regardless of the Texans record) has the temperament and ability to be one of the best head coaches in the league, he seems like a guy that demands nothing but the best from his players and he puts a huge emphasis on winning. Imo, the current situation in Houston has nothing to do with Bill's ability to coach, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallet are two of the worst QB's in the league, that defense (despite Watt & Clowney) is one of the worst units in the league. I also think he'd be interested in coaching this Jags roster because of his ties to Blake & A-Rob, just imagine how this offense could look with a guru like Bill O'Brien running it. The guy certainly gets the most out of his players, the clip below if from the 2011 season, the guy holds everyone accountable including the great Tom Brady. Start watching around the 30 second mark

What other choice did he have? Go look at their offensive stats, they actually have a solid offensive unit despite the incompetent QB play, that's a sign of good coaching and getting the most out of your players.
Does TMD have an alias?

Why wouldn't Bill O'Brien be a good candidate for the Jaguars head coaching position?

For starters it's not open..

I think it's safe to assume it will be if the Jaguars don't start winning some ball games.

You must be high....

They had a chance for Bortles and took Clowney. Whoops.

They traded for Mallet.

He's BAD.

O'Brien was around him his entire time in New England...

he should have known Mallet was bad (and appears to have a bad attitude)

His eye for talent falls somewhere between Gene Smith and TMD.....

and yours apparently.

What else was he supposed to do?

Probably should have drafted a QB. Stuck with one of the young guys that actually got the through last year.

Maybe he should have stuck with Hoyer from the go instead of yanking him quickly....

No thanks.
I think all of Bill Belicheck assistants have failed as head coaches.  Pass.

A) The coaching job isn't vacant.

B ) He's an young coach that has shown NOTHING to make him seem more competent than Gus Bradley (Guess who's record is ALSO 1-4)

C) Just another coordinator that will FAIL outside of Belicheat's umbrella.

He reportedly wanted to select Bortles, it was Rick Smith's decision to select Clowney, he traded for Ryan Mallet because he's familiar with his system genius, he isn't in charge of personnel in Houston so how can you blame him for the Texans drafts?

I was thinking the same.

HE WENT 9-7 LAST YEAR! Gus has won 8 games in 3 years! You can't be this incompetent but that seems to be the case, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

So he traded for a QB he already knew was bad, just because he knew the system? And actually gave up a draft pick?  Genius!

He'd be worth kicking the tires on, but the track record of former New England assistants in the NFL is dismal. His work at Penn State was great considering what the school was saddled with, but his work in Houston hasn't done much to distinguish him from the pack.

I doubt he's fired in the first place. The Texans gave him a big contract that they'd have to eat if they fired him, and Bob McNair has shown himself to be a patient owner. Barring a Bradley-level collapse, I don't think his job would be at risk until the end of the 2016 season at the earliest.

Plus he says [BLEEP] a LOT!

The team he inherited went 9-7.  He's since shown that they have complety imploded under his watch.

It was a 7th round pick! Hahaha

So, do you have a point?  He could've gotten better talent from FA without giving up squat.

Another clueless post, the Texans went 2-14 the year before, do you not recall them drafting 1st in the 2014 draft. He took a 2-14 team and turned them into a 9-7 team.
