Quote:Very Much So... If Garrard had played upon the departure of Brunell instead of GM Harris drafting Leftwich, Garrard would've had more franchise yardage, records, TDs etc. He backed up both Brunell and Leftwich for two years each (4 total) before he became an full time starter...

The Possibilities, The Unknown...  :whistling:

NH3...

Garrard wasn't very good backing up Leftwich. He didn't start playing well until he started. Although if he had been starting since Brunell left, who knows how good he could have been.
Brunell

Garrard

Leftwich

Bortles (i'll let him have one full good season before I put him over Byron)

the rest meh

And yes if Leftwich came out now with todays NFL offenses more spread he would have been more successful, plus not having injuries

Quote:Blake has potential to be number one. Imagine if he had Keenan McCardell, Jimmy Smith, Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, and a Defense that disrupted things, and got turnovers.

For now though: (Only counting guys who have at least 1 start for the Jags)

1. Mark Brunell

2. David Garrard

3. Blake Bortles

4. Byron Leftwich

5. Chad Henne

6. Jay Fiedler

7. Rob Johnson

8. Steve Matthews

9. Quinn Gray

10. Trent Edwards

11. Todd Bouman

12. Jamie Martin

13. Steve Beuerlein

14. Blaine Gabbert

15. Jonathan Quinn

16. Luke McCown

Didn't Jim Miller start once?
Quote:Didn't Jim Miller start once?

No... In '97 he began the year as the backup... then was waived and was on the Falcons roster for October... then was waived again and was a Jaguars backup in November and December, however he never even took a snap. Aside from one start with the Steelers in '96, Jim Miller only started games with the Bears from '99 through '02.

At the very least put Beuerlein ahead of Matthews.

Brunell

Bortles

That's pretty much it.  An argument might be made for a few others during their specific eras and team, but I don't think any other quarterback has had the real "star" potential.

Yeah. You can argue that Garrard had star potential in 2007, but aside from that one season not really.

Quote:Is this a grammar correction? I challenge.

You would say "this one is...", but with more than one you say, "these two are...".

Or are you merely agreeing with me, saying "this too"?

Really? Talk about reading too much into it.

Yes, I was agreeing with you.

I think (in hind site) that the drafting of Byron Leftwich was a mistake, especially when he was promoted above Gerrard.  I remember when Garrard was drafted I thought that he was another Brunell (young, mobile, etc.).

I had the opposite thought. I knew Garrard had a big arm, but watching college games of his at ECU he often went three-and-out, and I felt he'd be a total bust. I was thinking at the time that Rohan Davey out of LSU should have been the pick. Good thing TC didn't pick Davey who never did start a game. Davey played in a total of 7 games for the Patriots over the next three years throwing a total 19 passes with a 4.6 YPA and a 56.5 qb rating and was never heard of again.
