Quote:The million dollar question is, how do you measure "improvement" without looking at W/L?
Here's one thing I know, when I evaluate that question:
-a QB who is markedly improved, can and does make plays on 3rd down
-a Oline who isn't a sieve and give up 5 sacks a game
-skill position guys who can and do make big plays
-a downfield passing game
-a defense that can "hang in there" and give the team a chance to win
That being said, I'm frustrated too. But if I would have told myself going into week 4 that we'd have Blake throw for 300, not make mistakes and seem to be aware of how not to make them, TJ run for 100, theD give up 16 points, the team make big plays on O, I'd have some level of encouragement.
I didn't have a big hope of making some huge playoff run this year. I wanted to see development from 5 as much as anything, and young players emerge.
Right now, that is happening, but we are missing something.
I see that something as an "identity" as cliche as that is. We are missing a piece, a "something" to get everyone with a bit more confidence to know we should win these games.
We've been the freaking underdog for years, and that takes a toll on the overall psyche. That deal that allows the team to plow forward and not wait for the other shoe to drop. Like it has for the last 1/2dozen years. Just INSANE bad luck-from Matt Jones to JB, Byron, coupled with bad judgment ....Anger, Alualu, Reggie Williams (note: shocking admission of wrongness on a message board) actually I'd hoped that would be Dante Fowler, with Julius Thomas. So be it.
13 points blows. But you have to see development
Those pieces can just fall quickly into place....with a little skill and luck, like Deon Grant, MoJo, Searcy, Means, Reggie Hayward to a degree, Mike P, etc..
Sick of this losing..yeah. But I know it isn't far off....
