Fair enough...Bortles has more or less directly given us 5 wins in 3 seasons.

Hmm...

I'm not a GM, but if I was, I think I'd be looking at every single option possible at QB moving forward.

I agree.

Though I don't think that stat is everything.  How many times was he in position to put the team on his back and came up short?

We'd have to look at the losses as well as the wins to see a bigger picture, IMO.

What concerns me are the pick 6's that put us in a hole early.  It's a different game when you get behind so soon.

Very true.
We need a run game. I'm telling you guys. Teams haven't respected our run game since the Bortles era began. The defense knows we are going to pass and literally just sit on routes and wait to pick them off. If you're down in games you're gonna air it out. If you keep airing it out the defense will eventually make a play. Your game becomes predictable and turnovers are going to happen.

The plan is going to be heavy o-line in FA and draft. Then draft Fournette or Cook at 4. It feels so inevitable to me.

Quote:Bortles can turn it around but he has to actually work his tail off.

It's pretty clear how lazy he was last summer. It showed on the field.

If he works his tail off and we have a good offseason, you will see the Jags triple their win total from last year.

I'm still not sold that he was "lazy" last summer but that he worked on the wrong areas. Olson straight up told him not to go work on mechanics and stay with the WRs. He flew Deadeaux in like 2 days after Olson was fired.

He's obviously working this off season and worked the off-season going into his sophomore year as well. I don't think we'll know if he's lazy or not until he has another season as good or better than 2015. My money is on he'll be fine if/when that happens.
I can't agree more regarding the run game.  I believe it takes years (5+) for quarterbacks to learn the game and become capable of carrying the team. The only way a QB can get that much time is by having a strong run game and/or defense for them to lean on while they are learning.

Establishing a running game is crucial to our future success.

I'm not really a quote and bash kind of guy, but what source do you have that the OC told him to not get better at passing?

Bortles himself said that Olson and House had differently philosophies and that Olson said he'd be better off staying in Jax with the WRs. Also when Bortles repeatedly said he needs to work on his footwork to tighten the motion and Olson was all about only working on the arm.

Not sure if it's still on Jags.com but it came out when Olson was fired, straight from Blake's mouth.

Quote:Numbers don't win games. He also has really high int and sack numbers. He does not play smart and should have basic mechanics down on throwing a football. We should not be discussing blake struggles after 3 seasons.

Agreed. After that point, there should be no more struggles.

Like there were no conversations last offseason regarding Luck's struggles.

It isn't like there were reporters at any point asking if Brady would be replaced....

I don't ever recall Packer fans ever questioning whether Aaron Rogers still had "it" either.

The point is not that Blake is or will be remotely as good as these guys, 2 of them certain HOFers.

The point is that QB's have off years, and frequently come back from them to play at their former level, and are constantly the focus of questions...becasue they're QB's.   Not to mention that guys take off at different points, too.  They didn't draft Rivers in SD because they knew Brees was going to be what he is...

That last year in SD for Brees looked a lot like Blake's stat line, really.  24 TD's.  15 INT's.

Also, one thing that continues to just puzzle me is the ongoing harping on "garbage time" stats, without any recognition of the double-edged sword that comes with playing in that circumstances.  Frankly, you can see someone's agenda who fails to acknowledge this.

DB's sitting on routes.  DL ears pinned back, knowing it's a throw every down.  No threat of a run, anyway.  DC's dreaming up ways to creatively make something happen......with no real repercussion.

Hey, Blake's got a lot of faults, but let's not pretend that he's been in a situation geared for success.

A look at the last 2 games showed a guy with a weight lifted off his shoulders, if you ask me.  The ball came out better.  Suddenly there ARob is All World again.  A running game materializes....these are not coincidences, in my view.
Is it possible were tanking to get Gus fired?

idk how many losses its gonna take for us to get the chargers to fire him but i think well try.

All right, I have to admit that was pretty funny.

I wanted Fournette at 4 but now a DL choice would be more logical. The free agent DL market is thinner than we expected with JPP and Ingram being tagged. Johnathan Allen or Solomon Thomas would be good choices. Especially if Solomon Thomas is explosive at the combine, which many suggest he just might be. If we are able to get a good pass rusher I would like Fournette, if not DL should be the pick.
