He said Bortles looks like he's ready to join the top 10, which he did this preseason. Of course nobody has actually put him in the top 10 yet. His potential, however, is through the roof. Much went into Blakes poor stats as a rookie including a pourus OL that has two new starters at C and RT. In the first half of the season a few too many passes got away from the rookie and were intercepted. This prompted a more conservative game plan the second half of the season, and his stats were further complicated by him hitting a rookie wall where his arm was fatigued. This offseason, however, Blake has worked with experts on perfecting his mechanics and throwing motion, and it's paid off wonderfully. From the start of OTAs through the preseason, Blake's passes have been right on the money. Virtually every incompletion is the result of a drop, and with Bortles at the helm weeks two and three, the Jaguars converted 75 percent of their first downs. He was just as impressive week one, but I just don't know what the third down convertion stat is from that game to include it. Gil Brandt and Peter King are already on record boasting about how much Blake has improved, as are many others. We'll see week one if he's any better than Cam, but it's not like Cam is a top 10 qb either.

There isn't 10 qbs in the league that I would take over Cam. All things being equal, I'd take him over just about anybody. He makes the kind of plays that no other player in this league can. He's going into his fifth season. In each of the last three seasons including this one he has a new LT and a new primary WR. Once he gets some stability around him he'll be a top 5 qb. The guy can make every throw and he can run over you, through you, and around you.

Cam was the top rated QB in the preseason FWIW...

You wouldn't know this, but Bortles as a rookie wasn't nearly as disastrous as you might think listening to talking heads that only look at the stats. In fact he even had a record setting game against the chargers, not that records mean much. The people on the board watched the games last year and witnessed the reality - Bortles was possibly the best player on the field for the Jaguars and much better as a QB and leader of men than his stats or w/l record suggest.
